The papers include correspondence, manuscripts, research notes, newspaper clippings, and teaching materials which document the career of James Harvey Rogers. The correspondence documents Rogers's academic appointments, research, participation in formulating economic policies for the New Deal, his post as American representative to the Economic Committee of the League of Nations, and his trip to China, Japan, and India in 1934 as a representative of the U.S. Treasury to study the silver situation. Rogers's academic life is represented by extensive notes taken during his graduate studies at Yale University (1912-1916), correspondence with members of the Economics Department (1930-1939), examinations, student papers, and material relating to Pierson College, of which he was a fellow. Rogers's research material includes offprints, clippings, press releases, and other materials on international trade, war debts, foreign investments, European economic problems, monetary reform, and the Depression. Personal papers include a small quantity of family correspondence and diaries of trips to Europe.

The Harvey Williams Cushing Papers in the Yale University Library are composed of correspondence, subject files, writings, family papers, artifacts, and writings about Harvey Cushing. The papers document the personal life and professional career of a medical giant and pioneer neurosurgeon. They reveal Cushing as a doctor, teacher, soldier, administrator, bibliophile, and scientist, whose diverse achievements are important to the histories of the Harvard Medical School, Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, and the Yale University Medical School and Library, as well as to the history of brain surgery. Harvey Williams Cushing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 9, 1869. He was the youngest of ten children of Henry Kirke and Betsey Maria (Williams) Cushing. Medicine was a family tradition. His father was a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Western Reserve University. His brother, Edward Fitch, grandfather, and great-grandfather were also physicians. His grandfather, Erastus Cushing, had moved to Cleveland in 1835 from Massachusetts, where the family had become established some two hundred years earlier.

An artificial collection, the Connecticut Soldiers Collection was created to provide a starting point for research concerning the experiences of Connecticut servicemen from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. The sources for the materials are provided in the collection.

The papers of Lee Friedlander include photographs, correspondence, work files, book projects, printed materials, awards, objects, audiovisual materials, and computer disks documenting his career as a photographer, including his work process, exhibitions, publications, business activities, and honors. Photographs include color slide portraits of musicians; black and white slides; exhibition prints of western landscapes; and work prints corresponding to exhibition prints held by the Beinecke Library, Yale University, and the Yale University Art Gallery. The collection also includes personal papers documenting his relationships with family and friends, in particular his wife Maria Friedlander.

The Basil Davenport Papers consist chiefly of correspondence, including a substantial number of outgoing letters from Davenport to his family. The collection also contains Davenport's diaries, drafts of his writings and translations, printed material documenting his career and critical work, and personal papers including genealogical material.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, personal papers, diaries and journals, photographs, and scrapbooks relating to the life and career of Loomis Havemeyer. The collection documents Havemeyer's childhood, his experiences at Hill School, undergraduate and graduate studies at Yale University, as well as his lengthy career as an instructor and an administrator at the university. Details regarding Havemeyer's personal life are recorded primarily in his diaries and in his autobiographical writings. An audiotape of his memorial service is included. The papers also include travel diaries of Loomis Havemeyer's sister, Julia Loomis Havemeyer, which record in detail her summer travels abroad.

This collection contains papers of individuals who were Yale faculty members, alumni/ae, clergy, ecumenical workers, or missionaries in areas other than China.
