Collections

The collection consists of the personal papers of James F. Ahern, documenting his position as chief of police for New Haven, Connecticut.

The collection provides evidence of the personal and professional life of James Fenimore Cooper, and to a lesser degree, the Cooper family, between 1792 and 1976. The collection documents Cooper's writing career, service in the United States Navy, and travels through Europe, and consists of correspondence, writings, personal papers, legal and financial documents, clippings, artwork, and objects. As an author who was engaged in the process of printing and publishing his works, and who was deeply interested in copyright, Cooper's papers shed light on book production during the mid nineteenth-century.

Children's author and illustrator, born in 1914, who lived in Rowayton, Connecticut from 1942 until his death in 1998. Author of 17 children's books, also a freelance illustrator and painter.

James Furman was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1937 and was a college professor/Composer. The collection includes audio recordings of original material, performance programs, and biographical information.

The collection consists of manuscript notes and card files, printed material, writings drafts and offprints, and a small amount of correspondence and grant applications relating to White's research on Thomas Mann. Notes and card files mostly concern White's research on Dante's Divina commedia and Karl Vossler's work on Dante as source material for Mann's Der Zauberberg. Some notes concern Mann's Doktor Faustus or works of other German authors. Correspondence with Joseph Angell, founding curator of the Beinecke Library's Thomas Mann Collection, concerns their shared interest in Mann, the Beinecke Library's Mann Collection, and White's research and academic career.

The papers consist of photographs, plans, drawings, specifications, job files, correspondence, contracts, and printed material, which relate to architectural projects, particularly residences and government, church, hospital, and school buildings, designed by James Gamble Rogers, or the firms of Hale and Rogers, James Gamble Rogers, Inc., and Rogers and Butler. The most extensive files are for buildings on the Yale University campus, but there are also substantial files on the Aetna Life Insurance Company home office, the Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, the New Haven Post Office and Court House, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and buildings on the campuses of Northwestern University and Columbia University. The papers also include personal papers of James Gamble Rogers and his son Francis Day Rogers.

The James Gates Percival Collection consist of writings, notebooks, personal papers, correspondence, maps, and other papers that document Percival's life and work. Writings are autograph manuscripts of poetry and prose compositions on linguistics, geology, and geography, including several drafts of his Report on the Geology of Connecticut, as well as chemistry notes by West Point professor James Cutbush. Percival's notebooks contain writings and notes on a broad range of topics in addition to his classroom notes from school, college, and medical school days. Personal papers include contracts, agreements, and subscriber lists related to his publications; inventories and invoices documenting his large library collection; and other financial papers, primarily bills for personal expenses including room, board, and clothing. Correspondence files hold letters to and from many prominent colleagues and scholars such as Benjamin Silliman and Edward C. Herrick in New Haven, friends including George Hayward in Boston, his publishers Sidney Babcock, Samuel G. Goodrich, and Samuel Walker, and editors such as Eliza Leslie and Louisa C. Tuthill. Percival was a member of the New Haven Sing-Song Club and the collection documents his contributions to that organization. Also present is a portrait painting of Percival by his brother Edwin Percival, and a group of papers regarding Percival's life and work complied by J. H. Ward, Herbert E. Gregory, and others, including a memoir of him by Caroline Howard Gilman.

The papers consist primarily of correspondence of James Graham Phelps Stokes and Rose Harriet Pastor Stokes between 1903 and 1910. Correspondents include personal friends, family members, and colleagues active in social reform work and the Socialist Party. Invitations to speaking engagements and arrangements for public appearances are the subjects of many of these letters.

The papers consist of correspondence and writings documenting James Gregory Mumford's education and training as a physician and his career as an essayist and author.
