Collections

The records of the Howard R. Lamar Center consist of materials related to Lamar Research Fellows and scholarship recipents, as well as scheduled lectures and other events hosted by the Howard R. Lamar Center.

The Howard Roberts Lamar papers document the research, writing, teaching, and administrative activities of Yale history professor Howard Lamar from the 1940s through 2000. Included in the papers are manuscript drafts of books, articles, speeches, and book reviews; lecture notes for the history courses he taught at Yale and other universities; topical and personal files; and correspondence. Project proposals, scripts, research material, production files, photographs, and films document the "Westering" film project which Lamar co-developed in the 1970s.

Correspondence, subject files, administrative files, financial papers, and film notes largely documenting Weaver's tenure as dean of the Yale School of Art and Architecture, 1968-1974. Also included are materials from the Yale New Haven Educational Corporation, the Hills Art Co-op, and the New Haven Foundation.

The records consist of minutes, correspondence, and subject files documenting Howard S. Weaver's role as liaison with the Yale Alumni Board, the Yale Alumni Magazine, and various alumni clubs.

The papers consist of correspondence and reprints of Howard Walter Florey relating to antibiotics.

The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, clippings, and printed material relating to the history of Rhodesia and South Africa, with specific focus on Jameson's Raid, 1895-1896, the Johannesburg Reform Committee, and Cecil John Rhodes. Correspondence includes letters with numerous individuals active in the government and military forces in South Africa and Rhodesia, and with friends, relatives, and associates of those individuals. These letters were solicited by Wright and contain the reminiscences of and comments about such figures as: Frederick Russell Burnham, Jack Carruthers, Louis Cohen, John Hays Hammond, J. B. M. Hertzog, Sir Leander Starr Jameson, Cecil Rhodes, George Bernard Shaw, and Jan Christian Smuts.

Genealogical material on the Atwood family and collateral lines.

The papers consist of writings, printed material, programs, and photographs compiled by Hoyt Curtiss Pease pertaining to Yale crew.

Photographs of architectural designs and finished work executed by H. Page Cross. Included are photographs of commercial, institutional and residential buildings with both interior and exterior views. A small amount of funiture design is also shown. Among the projects are floor plans for the Museum of Modern Art, the Foxcroft School, Trinity Episcopal Church of Upperville, Virginia, and designs for Paul Mellon residences in Virginia, Massachusetts, and the British West Indies.

H. P. & E. Day, Inc., of Seymour, Connecticut, manufactured hard rubber for pens and mechanical pencils. Records include administrative records, product orders and inventories, property and legal documents, financial records, and examples of the company's products. Also included is information about the predecessor and successor companies, Austin G. Day Company and Waterman Pen Company.
