The papers consist of letters written by James Stewart McDermott to his family and friends, describing his life at Yale College and in the Marine Corps. His wartime letters were written from Quantico, Virginia; Washington, D.C; Camp Pendleton; and unspecified locations in the Pacific, until his death on Iwo Jima. The papers also include a few newspaper clippings and other items.

The collection consists of letters to James Koller from various friends and colleagues, including Philip Whalen, and original manuscripts and typescripts of Koller's poetry and novels.

James Oliver Longstreet was born November 16, 1833. He received a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan in 1857. As a student at Wesleyan, he was a member of the Mystical Seven secret society and the Missionary Lyceum. After graduating from Wesleyan, Longstreet worked as both a teacher and a preacher until his death in 1861.

The collection comprises diaries, notebooks, and other manuscript documents concerning the travels of James Wales in India, with a particular focus on antiquities of Poona and the nearby cave temples of Ellora.

Mary Janette Elmore was born in South Windsor, CT, in 1832 and died in 1922. She was the daughter of Harvey and Clarrisa Burnham Elmore and sister of Samuel Edward. She never married. She did extensive research and made notes on family and neighborhood genealogy. The Janette Elmore papers contain extensive notes on the genealogy and life of the Hayes family and neighbors, correspondence concerning family data, and newspaper articles and obituaries.

These papers document various individuals who were involved in the development of the town of Wethersfield.

This artificial collection documents Dr. George O. Jarvis's invention of a "surgical adjuster". It contains the original patent, 3 promotional pamphlets and a series of letters documenting Dr. Jarvis's trip to London to promote his invention.

Family members include James Jarvis of Boston and New York and Benjamin Jarvis of St. Eustatia, West Indies, among others.
