Topics documented include the history of Coahuila and Mexico, particularly Monclova; the history of the presidio of Santa Rosa, including its mines; the history of indigenous people in the region; the military feats of Juan de Ugalde; the wars of independence of 1810 and 1821; the cholera epidemics of 1833 and 1849; the campaign into Texas in 1836; and the Mexican Revolution of 1910 and 1911.

Howard A. Seckerson Papers, undated, 1921-1961

Seckerson became head of the English Department at Connecticut Agricultural College in 1921. His development of the department assisted in the conversion from a vocational college into a state university in 1939. His management of the dramatic club laid the foundation for the future Department of Speech and Drama. In addition to teaching, Mr. Seckerson was an ordained minister and returned to pastoral duties after retiring from the University in 1946. At the time of his retirement, the English Department was the largest department on the UConn campus.

The Louise Talma Papers contain materials relating to composition and performance of Talma's opera The Alcestiad, and to Thornton Wilder, his friendship with Talma, and his collaboration with her as librettist for The Alcestiad. Contents relating to The Alcestiad, 1950s-1970s, include autograph letters, signed, to Talma from Thornton Wilder, 1952-1975 and undated, and from his sister Isabel Wilder, 1954-1972, with some letters annotated by Talma; autograph manuscript music drafts; diazo reproductions of autograph manuscript full scores and vocal scores, including a German translation by Herberth E. Herlitschka; microfilms of scores; autograph manuscript drafts by Wilder of the libretto, and typescript mimeograph copies of the libretto; audiocassettes and reel-to-reel audiotapes of performances, 1960-1962 and undated; photographs of performances; and clippings of reviews. Other papers, 1940s-1980s, include scores and parts for other vocal, orchestral, and chamber works by Talma, most diazo reproductions of autograph manuscript scores, 1947-1980 and undated; other writings by Wilder, most typescript, 1953-1973 and undated; clippings relating to Wilder; concert programs and other printed material, most concerning performances of Talma's music; and photographs, most of Talma with Wilder or with musicians, 1956-1962.

The collection consists of manuscript and typescript drafts of Harold Acton's translations of Chinese literary works and his writings; correspondence from Chinese, English, and American scholars and friends; material relating to a lecture tour of Italy; and other papers. Highlights include the unpublished manuscript for Popular Chinese Plays, which was once thought lost, as well as correspondence concerning its projected publication by Henry Vetch. Also included is an annotated typescript and related correspondence for Acton's novel, Peonies and Ponies (1941). Material sheds light on the development of literary translation between Chinese and English and the influence of China on British intellectual history and literary life during the period preceding the Second World War.

The Alice Raphael Papers contain writings, translations, correspondence, lectures, photographs, a scrapbook and other papers that document the professional and personal life of author and translator Alice Raphael. The papers include letters from Carl Gustav Jung and drafts of Raphael's book Goethe and the Philosophers' Stone: Symbolical Patterns in 'The Parable' and the Second Part of 'Faust' and her translation of Goethe's Faust: A Tragedy Part One and Faust: A Tragedy Part Two. The papers span the years 1918-1977.

The collection consists of printed material collected by Susan M. Chambré for her research on AIDS organizations and advocacy. This research was used for a series of articles in professional journals as well as the book Fighting for Our Lives: New York's AIDS Community and the Politics of Disease (Rutgers University Press, 2006). The material includes annual reports, unpublished reports, newsletters, news clippings, journal articles, pamphlets, board minutes and other material from nearly 100 AIDS-related organizations. Materials date from 1981 to 2015.

This collection is an addendum to the publications, correspondence, reports, statements, and collected material documenting the work of the Washington Office on Africa found in Record Groups 105 and 105A. The Washington Office on Africa was founded in 1972 to support the movement for freedom from white-minority rule in southern Africa. Its activities have included the monitoring of Congressional legislation and executive policies and actions, as well as the publication of action alerts and other documentation designed to advance progressive legislation and policy on southern Africa. Supported by church bodies and unions, the WOA has worked in partnership with colleagues in Africa, the Africa advocacy community in the United States, and grassroots organizations concerned with various aspects of African affairs.
