The Rudolph Dunbar Papers document the professional activities of clarinetist, conductor, music critic, teacher and journalist Rudolph Dunbar. Series in this collection include Correspondence, Professional Papers, Photographs and Other Papers. Among those represented in the correspondence series include Coretta Scott King, Eslanda Robeson, and British parliament member Robert Allan. Professional papers include press releases, German propaganda of African Americans during World War II, and music programs from Dunbar's performancesas a music conductor. Photographs of independence day celebrations of former British colonies in Africa and the Caribbean make up a large portion of the photographs alongside highlights of Dunbar's music career as a conductor and teacher. Photographs also include dignitaries and celebrities of the day such as Kwame Nkrumah, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and Jesse Owens.

The papers consist of correspondence, diaries, poems, orders and receipts concerning Samuel Benjamin's service in the Massachusetts infantry during the Revolutionary War. Included also is a printed version of Benjamin's diaries (1778-1780) describing maneuvers around West Point, New York and the Yorktown campaign.

Miscellaneous collection of black and white unmounted photographs and glass negatives of French medieval architecture and sculpture and Italian Renaissance and Baroque architecture by the photographer Pierre Devinoy. Glass negatives for much of the printed photograph material, with numbered inventory in Box 1. Most photographs with limited identification in pencil. Made by Pierre Devinoy, donated to the Visual Resources Collection by Sumner Crosby in 1969.

Glauco Cambon Papers, undated, 1940-1987

Born in 1921 in Pusiano, Italy, Cambon received his D. Phil in 1947. A Professor of Romance Languages and Comparative Literature, Cambon was a specialist in modern Italian poetry, especially Eugenio Montale. Cambon taught at Rutgers University from 1961 until 1969, when he came to the University of Connecticut for the remainder of his career. Glauco Cambon died in 1988.

Robert Marsham-Townshend papers, 1853-1910

Letters and diaries belonging to Robert Marsham-Townshend containing descriptions of his travels around the world. Many of the letters are written to him, though there is a group of 22 letters written by him to a relative named Harriet, dated 1856-1864. Correspondents include Henry Alabaster, interpreter to the King in Siam; scientists W. S. Atkinson and Robert Stirling; George Ferguson Bowen, first governor of Queensland, Australia; in addition to numerous family members and other acquaintances. Stirling writes at length from the Sandwich Islands describing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, a particular interest of Marsham-Townshend's. There are also fifteen letters from Youhannah El Karey, a missionary from Nablous, near Jaffa, Palestine. The 18 diaries span the dates 1853-1876, and carry descriptions of travel to Brazil, Egypt, Hong Kong, the Philippines, China, Japan, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, California, Australia, Indonesia, Siam, India, Persia, the Middle East, South Africa, Russia, and Europe. There is a great deal of geographic and volcanic observation, as well as descriptions of cities, cultures, and peoples encountered. Accompanied by a bound notebook with notes on volcanoes throughout the world, two passports for Marsham-Townshend to use in Persia, and three contracts and receipts for hiring mules and drivers in Persia.

The papers consist of letters, newspaper clippings, printed material, and photographs, originally mounted in three volumes, which document the personal and professional life of A. C. Gilbert. Volume one documents Gilbert's athletic career, both in Oregon and then at Yale, and his interest in magic arts. Volume two relates to Gilbert's career as a manufacturer, producing magic toys, Erector sets, model trains, and other toys. The last volume concerns the A. C. Gilbert Company, Yale athletics, and hunting expeditions. An addition to the collection includes personal correspondence.

The Henry Savage papers consists of writings, correspondence, and other papers relating to English author and editor Henry Savage. Writings feature printed versions of shorter works by Savage and several drafts. Printed versions of essays and reviews appear to have been assembled for possible publication as a collection or selection of writings. Other writings by Savage include drafts of a late work of reminiscences, "Promenade picaresque," and page proofs for a work of verse entitled Winged phallus.

Includes manuscripts of "Oh Nanny wilt thou gang wi' me" and another poem written to his wife, as well as obituaries, copies of his will, genealogies, and copies of poems by other writers.
