Abstract Or Scope
The papers include writings, correspondence, subject files, photographs and other materials relating to Lawrence Langner's work as an author, theater producer, and patent attorney. Writings include plays (Suzanna and the Elders and The Pursuit of Happiness, among others); articles on various aspects of theatre and patent law; and books, including his autobiography, The Magic Curtain; The Importance of Wearing Clothes; and G.B.S. and the Lunatic. Correspondence, subject files, and financial records relate to the writing, production, and publication of Langner's writings; his work with the Theatre Guild; his law firm; and the National Inventors Council, among other topics. Typescript iterations of plays including A Moon for the Misbegotten and Strange Interlude by Eugene O'Neill, inscribed by O'Neill to Langner, are also included. Correspondence between Bernard Shaw and Langner relating to the production of Shaw plays by the Theatre Guild; annotated proofs of Back to Methuselah, Geneva, and St. Joan; and a typescript article by Shaw form the final group of material in the papers.

Thaddeus W. Maliszewski Collection, 1935-2004

Thaddeus W. Maliszewski a lawyer, military officer, civic leader, was born in Hartford in 1922 and died in 2009. Graduate of Hillyer Junior College (Hartford), Wesleyan University (Middletown, Conn.) and University of Connecticut Law School. During WWII he served in the Pacific, was a member of the National Guard and Governor's Military Staff, finished his military career in the rank of Brigadier General. He served as a judge for several courts, was very active in the Democratic Party. For many years served in different positions in the Polish American Congress on state and national level. In addition, Maliszewski was active in veterans' organizations, Polish American cultural organizations as well as in political organizations. The collection consists of his personal and professional papers along with information about Poland and Polish American culture.

The records are arranged in ten series. Series I consists of organizational records including articles of incorporation, tax exempt certificates, and minutes of meetings. Series II contains records of projects and awards. These include civic projects, flower shows, etc. The Club’s publications are organized in Series III while photographs can be found in Series IV. In consecutive order, the final series contain clippings and scrapbooks; questionnaires and answers; miscellaneous materials; records and publications of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut; records and publications of the Garden Club of America; and notices, circulars and other published materials from assorted gardening organizations.

Also included are project descriptions and fact sheets, press clippings, marketing materials, files documenting buildings designed by Cesar Pelli before he incorporated his own firm in 1977 and other administrative records documenting Cesar Pelli and Associates projects between 1977 and 1979.
