The papers of Alexander M. Bickel include correspondence; writings, both published and unpublished; memoranda on legislation and government policy; papers from his legal practice; papers relating to his teaching at the Yale Law School; and personal papers and photographs. Bickel's writings as well as his legal cases reflect his general political position as a classical liberal, and revolve around such issues as segregation in the schools, racial discrimination, the role of the Supreme Court in American life and politics, separation of powers, freedom of the press, and freedom of speech. From 1958 until his death, Bickel often assisted in drafting social legislation. As the papers document, most prominent among these efforts was his share in the school desegregation legislation (1970-1974). His interest in the reform of the Democratic Party is shown in such materials as drafts of testimony before the Credentials Committee of the Party (1968). His active support for Charles H. Percy in 1967 and Robert F. Kennedy in 1968 is shown by substantive correspondence and memoranda from these years. As an editor of The New Republic he wrote on legal and political issues, contributing many signed and unsigned editorials and articles. His extensive writing and reviewing for other popular magazines and in monograph form are supported in the papers with correspondence and drafts. His service in the U. S. Army during World War II and his work with the High Commissioner for Germany and the State Department in the early 1950s are also documented.

The materials consist of photographs and slides documenting the construction of Silliman College at Yale. Included are interior and exterior views and photographs of the master's house.

After a number of Connecticut banks failed during the depression of 1929, in 1935 the General Assembly assigned to the Banking Commissioner the responsibility for liquidating their affairs. These are mainly records from the Liquidation Division. Also included are press releases and Commissioners files.

The Department of Economic and Community Development is the state's agency for the development and implementation of policies, strategies and programs all of which are designed to enhance Connecticut's communities and business and housing environments.

The papers consist of correspondence, publications of The New Fraternity, and other books, pamphlets, and unpublished writings of George Frederick Gundelfinger who made a lifetime crusade of sending his publications and moral admonitions to Yale University. Yale's suit against him in 1939 for sending obscenity through the mail is documented by trial transcripts. Also in the papers are photographs, newspaper clippings, printed matter, and books on mathematics. There is also an edited diary describing a family tour of Europe in 1908.

The collection contains notes, class materials, photocopies, transparencies, research, scores, correspondence and publications pertaining to Professor Bellingham's scholarly research in the history of music.

The papers document Frederic Lawrence Holmes' research in the history of the life sciences and include audiotapes and transcripts of interviews conducted for his research on Hans Krebs. The files also include materials relating to his work on Matthew Meselson and Frank Stahl on the replication of DNA.

David Park McAllester was professor of Anthropology and Music at Wesleyan University from 1947 to 1986. He studied and wrote about the rites and ceremonies of the Navajo Indians and was a co-founder of the Society for Ethnomusicology.

The Gezork papers document his professional career, including as Professor of Social Ethics and Christian World Relations at Andover Newton Theological School from 1939 to 1950 and President of Andover Newton from 1950 to 1965.

The papers include correspondence, teaching materials, and writings that document Frederick Pottle's scholarly interest in English literature, primarily the work of James Boswell. The papers also reflect Pottle's involvement in the affairs of the Yale English Department, Colby College, and the Episcopal Church.
