Correspondence, business and financial records, writings and printed material concerning the operation of Whirlwind Hill Farm, in Wallingford, Connecticut. The material documents James M. Osborn's breeding and marketing of purebred Holstein dairy cattle, and the status of dairy farming in the Northeast in the 1940s and 1950s.

Correspondence, diaries, financial records, property records and photographs of the White and Jacobson families of Coventry, Connecticut.

The papers consist of nine volumes of autographed letters written by prominent American, British, and French political, financial, literary, and cultural figures. The majority of letters are addressed to Whitelaw Reid or Elizabeth Mills Reid, and date from Reid's service as ambassador to Great Britain. Letters of introduction, acknowledgements of gifts and invitations, congratulatory messages, and letters of condolence comprise the bulk of the letters. The volumes also include letters relating to the New York Tribune and substantive letters from President Theodore Roosevelt (1906-1907) concerning Morocco, the Algeciras Conference, and other diplomatic and political matters.

Letters, photographs, and collected material, primarily from the late 1940s and early 1950s document the work of the Whiteners and the history of Christianity in Hunan Province, China and in Hong Kong. The elder Whiteners, Sterling W. and Marie, were missionaries in Yueyang (Yochow), Hunan Province, China from 1919 to 1948, serving under the Reformed Church in the United States and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. Their son, Sterling H. Whitener, and his wife Barbara were missionaries in Hunan Province from 1946 to 1950 and in Hong Kong from the early 1950s to 1967.

The records consist of correspondence, memoranda, student files, senior essays, and subject and administrative files documenting the operations of the Whitney Humanities Center. Topics include the Humanities Advisory Committee, the A. Whitney Griswold Faculty Research Fund, the Frederick W. Hilles Publication Fund, the National Institute for the Humanities, the Scholar of the House program, and the center's undergraduate programs.

The collection comprises correspondence sent to Eva, Lizzie Hester, and Sylvie Whyte by family and friends in the 1880s and 1890s, and provides insight into the lives of adolescent girls growing up in Victorian England in the fashionable Midlands town of Malvern, and their travels abroad.

The papers contain correspondence, family papers, diaries, sermons, photoprints, and other materials documenting the personal lives and professional careers of Joseph Dresser Wickham, Elizabeth Cooke Merwin Wickham and several Wickham, Merwin, Porter, and Roe relatives. The Wickham family papers have extensive material on such family subjects as relationships between brothers and sisters and parents and children, courtship, death, marriage, and the difficulties endured by stepmothers and clergymen's wives and on secondary education in the mid-nineteenth century, missionary work, religious conditions in Vermont, and Connecticut social life and customs.
