Collections

The papers document a portion of the creative process of writer John O'Hara, 1905-1970. They consist primarily of typed manuscript drafts, galley proofs, and page proofs of individual short stories, collections of stories, and novels, many with manuscript annotations. Some drafts of the collections include previously-printed stories excised from their original print source (often the New Yorker). The manuscript for "The Ewings" is a photocopy. There is also a small amount of correspondence between O'Hara, James T. Babb, and Robert Hawthorne Wylie. The papers span the range of much of O'Hara's career, from circa 1934 to circa 1970, but represent only a portion of his creative output.

The papers consist of correspondence and writings of John Pease Norton, including three letters from Irving Fisher and one letter from Albert G. Keller. The correspondence also includes a memorandum Norton sent to Herbert Hoover in 1931, suggesting a course of action to lift the country out of economic depression. The writings consist of two reprints and a folder of unidentified manuscripts and typescripts. The collection also includes several issues of The Bulletin of the William Graham Sumner Club.

The papers consist of correspondence, clippings and writings which document John Perry Miller's career as an economist and academic administrator. The majority of these materials relate to his tenure as dean of the Yale Graduate School during the period 1961-1969.

The records consists of topical files maintained by John Perry Miller of the Yale Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Correspondence, diaries, writings and other papers of John Pitkin Norton, professor of agricultural chemistry at Yale from 1846-1852. Norton's diaries contain among other topics Norton's observations on slavery and abolition, the Amistad case, the Liberty Party, religion and temperance. Professor Norton was also closely associated with the early days of the Sheffield Scientific School and was a pioneer in the application of scientific principles and methods to agriculture.

The John P. Marquand Collection contains manuscripts of books, essays, short stories, addresses, lectures, speeches, and book reviews, as well as business correspondence, research material, bibliographical material, biographical material, and photographic material.

The papers contain correspondence, reports, writings, and personal papers of John Punnett Peters. The papers primarily document his crusade for national health insurance and his support for progressive causes and include materials on his disloyalty charge. Copies of many of his writings and speeches and personal correspondence and papers are also included. These papers are part of the Contemporary Medical Care and Health Policy Collection.

The Monsignor John P. Wodarski collection is unique in terms of portraying and documenting activities of an ethnic Polish American parish and material related to the history of the Catholic Church and the history of Poland. Msgr. John P. Wodarski was a pastor at the Holy Cross Church in New Britain, Connecticut for several decades. Msgr. Wodarski was a very innovative priest who applied his ideas into educating the local community and always looked for ways to promote mutual understanding among other ethnic and religious groups. He was a great supporter of the Polish Studies Program at Central Connecticut State University where he served on the advisory board for many years. The collection includes documentation of the celebration of Poland's Millennium in 1966 and a visit by Cardinal Karol Wojtyla from communist Poland to the US in 1969. Cardinal Wojtyla later became Pope John Paul II.

Correspondence, speeches, travel diaries, and documents relating to John Q. Tilson's public life. The diary of his trip to Europe in 1925 was kept while studying munitions for a report to Calvin Coolidge. Another diary reports on a trip to the Orient in 1927. Correspondence reflects his service in the Connecticut National Guard and his connection with Yale Law School. He lectured there on parliamentary law from 1930 until his death, and papers from this course are also in the collection. Of particular interest in the correspondence is a letter from Calvin Coolidge (1923) and another from Cordell Hull (1940).

The papers consist of John Quincy Bradish's family correspondence and papers, student papers and other writings, Yale and other memorabilia, photographs and printed matter. Much of the collection consists of records, correspondence, charts and research notes concerning Bradish family genealogy.
