Funding was not only needed from the public sector but from the private sector as well. The US and her allies set up multiple private events for fundraisingbefore and during the war. This was specifically the “First Annual Allies Costume Ball.” It was a success earning more money for foreign aid and military than any other private event in the World War One era.
The “Grand Benefit” was set up privately by Washington Committee to raise money for the french wounded. The event included speakers, films and presentations of the war. The committee's objective was to convey the atrocities of World War One to the people that were invited in hopes of guilting them into giving money. This wasn’t the best way to fundraise but a few thousand dollars was raised at this event.
The National Allied Relief Committee sent aid to the majority of the United State’s allies. Their purpose was to raise money through awareness to the public. The committee set up this allied bazaar as a public exhibit for people to come and experience what the war had caused. This committee was one of the largest funders for foreign aid and domestic funding.
