The James Claude Thomson and James C. Thomson, Jr. Papers provide a visual and written record of James Claude Thomson's career as a biochemist, professor at the University of Nanking, and medical nutrition expert. The collection contains Thomson's private and professional correspondence, a record of his academic and research work, several copies of his nutritional surveys of Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan, as well as the lectures and speeches he delivered during his long career as a professor. A highlight of the collection is the series of color slides of Iran, Afghanistan, China, Korea, and Japan, and notable film footage of China. Addenda to the original collection also document the life and work of James Claude Thomson's son, James Claude Thomson, Jr. (1931-2002), who was a statesman, historian, and journalist.

The papers consist of manuscript drafts, research notes, correspondence, and copies of original documents concerning the unpublished work The Aroostock Dispute and the Bounding of Maine. Also included is correspondence related to research and publication of West on the 49th; Red River to the Rockies, 1872-1876 (1963) and copies of other published writings of John E. Parsons.

The collection consists of clippings, printed and near-print materials, photographs and other papers concerning the Field family of Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Family members figuring prominently in this collection include Cyrus West Field (1819-1892) and David Dudley Field (1805-1894).

Correspondence, writings, and tributes document the life and work of this prominent Congregational clergyman. Theodore Carswell Hume (1904-1943) was a Congregational minister in Chicago and California. He died in Europe while serving as emissary of the American churches under the auspices of the American Church Committee on Relief and Reconstruction and the World Council of Churches.

This collection documents the life and work of Anna Lane Wilson and Stanley Wilson, who were missionaries in China from 1917 to 1949, primarily serving at Yenching University. Of particular note are Anna Wilson's letters to family in the United States and journals document her voyage to China, missionary life, Chinese customs and celebrations, dress, architecture, the flu epidemic, climate, and political events.

Letters, writings, and collected material document the life and work of James Fyfe Laughton. Laughton was born of missionary parents in China, returning to Scotland to continue his education. He later studied at Crozer Seminary in Chester , PA, was ordained to the Baptist ministry in 1912, and served as pastor of a church in Westport, New York for seven years. In 1920 he was called by the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society to direct the work of their mission ship "Fukuin Maru" sailing among the islands of the Inland Sea and coast of Japan. He returned to America in 1926, traveled widely, and was engaged in religious education, lecturing, writing, and pastoral work.

Correspondence, notes, and writings document Porter's life and work. Frank Chamberlin Porter (1859-1946) was Winkley Professor of Biblical Theology at the Yale Divinity School from 1891 to 1927.

Substantive correspondence, photographs, and slides document the Ballous' life and work in China. Earle and Thelma Ballou were missionaries in Tianjin (Tientsin), North China, serving under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) from 1916 to 1948.
