The papers consist of personal and professional correspondence.

The Seward Collins Papers contain correspondence, subject files, business papers, and other papers documenting Collins's editorship of The Bookman and The American Review.

The William Lyon Phelps papers at the Beinecke Library contain correspondence, writings, and other materials documenting the life and work of American author, critic, and long-time Yale professor William Lyon Phelps. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence to Phelps from contemporaries from the first half of the Twentieth century, including well-known authors and literary critics. Other materials include a large group of outgoing letters from Phelps to Ralph T. Catterall and notes, drafts, and cancelled pages to Phelps's Autobiography With Letters (1939).

The papers consist of letters to Lawrence Gilman from various writers, poets, editors, and musicians, including Winifred Welles, Carl Van Vechten, Winston Churchill, John Farrar, Otto Klemperer, Marian MacDowell, H. L. Mencken, Ezra Pound, Bruno Walter, John Butler Yeats, and William Butler Yeats. A small amount of letters are from Gilman family members and an unidentified correspondent. Other papers include a draft of Gilman's "Bach the Great Modern," two notebooks, and clippings.

The papers consist of correspondence, a diary, printed material, and miscellaneous papers documenting the Civil War activities of Henry Phelps Johnston.

The records document donations, gift agreements, and monies given to Yale.

The materials consist of audio recordings and transcripts of oral histories conducted by Judith Schiff with Yale University affiliates. The materials document the administrations of Yale presidents Hanna Gray, A. Bartlett Giamatti, Benno Schmidt, Jr., Howard R. Lamar, and Richard C. Levin.

Collection of mounted black and white and color reproductions of Asian, European, American, and other original and reproductive prints, as well as examples of printing and related processes. Content varies from original photographic prints to reproductions from magazines and other published sources. Some sections have accompanying clippings folders.

The Danford Barney papers contains correspondence, drafts of writings, photographs, and other material relating to poet and photographer Danford Barney. Correspondence in the collection contains letters from many Yale-affiliated faculty, authors, and collaborators, including Stephen Vincent Benét, William Rose Benét, Henry Seidel Canby, John Farrar, Brian Hooker, Benjamin R. C. Low, William Lyon Phelps, and Thornton Wilder, as well as authors who commented on Barney's work, such as John Hall Wheelock, and authors whose work interested him, such as A. E. Housman and E. A. Robinson. Writings contains drafts and fragments for several manuscripts, including the original autograph drafts, corrected, of the early poems published as Dust of Stars (1916), as well as typescript fair copies of later, unpublished collections of poems, "Silly Sagas of the Sea" and "Songs of Sorts." Other materials include photographic prints by Barney, identification papers, biographical and genealogical information, and clippings and printed ephemera.

The papers include correspondence mainly regarding Astle's work in the Record Office. There is also correspondence with James Adams about his work on grammar, with Charles Blagden about the Pompeiian excavations, and with Harriot Collinson about her husband's work (John Collinson's "The History and Antiquities of the County of Somerset"). Much of the correspondence is annotated in an unidentified hand.
