The Brooks Family Papers contain materials relating to Harold Allen Brooks, Sr., Mildred McNeill-Brooks, and their son, Harold Allen Brooks, Jr. The materials consist of correspondence, writings, financial documents, photographs, and research files. The latter contains materials regarding Frank Lloyd Wright, other Prairie School architects, and Charles-Edouard Jeanneret. The research files on Jeanneret bring together documents and photographs collected from around the world and provide comprehensive documentation of Jeanneret's personal life, influences, and architectural career. There is a presentation drawing by Euston made after the architect's first visit to the site in the spring of 1939 and a writing by H. Allen Brooks as to why he became an architectural historian as it relates to the presentation drawing.

Foster Family Papers, 1836-1974

The papers relate to missionary work in China and Thailand from 1888-1927, to educational institutions with which the Fosters were involved, and to the personal and family life of several generations of Foster family members. Correspondence mainly consists of letters received by various members of the Foster family. Of particular interest are the journals of John Marshall Foster, 1888-1916, describing life and events in China, especially the effects of the Boxer Rebellion on the American missions. The Fosters were a family of American Baptist missionaries. John Barton Foster, was a teacher, editor of Zion's Advocate, minister and professor of Greek and Latin at Colby College. His son, John Marshall Foster, helped found the Baptist Church at Vassalboro, Maine, and was a missionary to China and Thailand from 1888 to 1921. Clara Hess Foster, the wife of J. M. Foster, and their children Frank, Anna, and John Hess also served as missionaries in China. John Hess Foster was on the medical staff of Yale-in-China.

Hamilton's (Yale 1904) life as a student at Yale. Included is a memoir by Henry Bancroft Twombly, a Yale football player, and an edition of Yale, A Record of the Dinner, February 16, 1889.

Joe Vincent Meigs papers, 1858-1915

The papers consist of correspondence, pamphlets, scrapbooks, genealogical materials and papers related to the Meigs Transit System in Boston and the American Civil War, including the formation of a black light artillery battalion. Meigs' Civil War service in the Tennessee army is documented in correspondence, a memoir, and a scrapbook. Meigs designed and installed his elevated rail system in 1885 and over 400 drawings as well as other materials connected with the enterprise are included in the papers. The correspondence contains an extended series of letters from his father, Return Jonathan Meigs, written between 1858 and 1888, as well as substantial genealogical correspondence.

Edward H. and Lotta C. Hume papers, 1897-1990

The papers document the career of Edward H. Hume, a physician and educator, whose major work was divided between China, where he founded the Hunan-Yale Medical College (1914) and New York, where he was trustee and director of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital (1928-1933). His life-long interest in Chinese medical problems is shown in his correspondence with members of the Yale-in-China Association staff. His subject files document the history of the various institutions of the Yale Mission in China, as well as political events during his stay. The papers also include copies of Hume's published and unpublished writings, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Lotta C. Hume's training as a nurse was put to use in India and China where she lived with her husband (1903-1927). Manuscripts of two books and a number of articles which she wrote on her return to the United States are in the papers. Of special interest are her research materials on Chinese and Tibetan folk tales, collected for a book on that subject. Apart from a letter on the Changsha riots in 1910, her correspondence is largely devoted to family matters.
