The Boardman & Seymour Records (2009-75-0) consist of correspondence, bills, legal documents, licenses to sell liquor, orders, receipts, statements of accounts and other business records. Daniel Boardman (1757-1833), New York City businessman and merchant, his brother Elijah Boardman (1760-1823), New Milford businessman and merchant, and Moses Seymour Jr. (1774-1826), Litchfield merchant and town official, maintained a partnership to operate a store in Litchfield in which they sold "a variety of Dry and West-India Goods, suitable for all seasons; consisting of almost every article usually retailed in a Country Store," according to a Dec. 17, 1794, advertisement in the Litchfield Monitor. The partnership was dissolved in 1804, according to a Nov. 21 newspaper advertisement.

The Board of Capitol Commissioners oversaw construction of a new State Capitol building in Hartford.

The Connecticut Board of Examiners of Embalmers was established in 1903. Its function is to examine and license embalmers and to make and enforce regulations for the practice of that profession. In 1941 the act was amended to include provisions for licensing funeral directors. Now known as the Connecticut Board of Examiners of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, the Board works closely with the Department of Public Health.

In 1895 the Fish Commissioners became the Commissioners of Fisheries and Game charged with "the supervision of hatcheries and retaining ponds, the introduction and distribution of such food fish and game as are adapted to the waters or lands of this State, and the enforcement of all laws relating to fish and game." The Commission became the State Board of Fisheries and Game in 1913.

The Board of Pardons had jurisdiction over the granting of and authority to grant, commutations of punishment or releases, conditional or absolute, commutations from the penalty of death, and pardons, conditional or absolute.

The Board of Parole made release decisions based upon the likelihood that released prisoners would remain at liberty without violating the terms and conditions of their parole agreement and supervised those who are granted parole.

The records consist of minutes, reports, and memoranda documenting the activities and operations of the Yale College Board of Permanent Officers. Also included are materials on faculty appointments for Yale College and the graduate schools.

The Board of Railroad Commissioners came into existence on July 1, 1853. On September 9, 1911 it was succeeded by the Public Utilities Commission.

Record of the Board of Relief of the Town of Litchfield listing persons indebted to residents of this state, abatements of poll tax, miscellaneous alterations of list, abatements on assessment, and persons to whom the board added money at interest.

Correspondence, reports, studies, minutes of meetings, circular letters, financial reports, outlines of proposed surveys, annual reports, departmental reports, and monographs relative to the established purpose of the Board, which was sponsored by the Carnegie Institution of Washington, Department of Economics and Sociology. Included are interviews (ca. 1906-1907) with Southern farmers, professionals, government officials, and merchants on the economics of agriculture in the South. Also a number of interviews with blacks connected with the Tuskegee Institute, an insurance agent, a banker and laborers. Topics covered in the collection include labor legislation in Indiana, 1908; laws regarding seamen; immigration; labor problems in individual states; public poor relief in Wisconsin; trade unions; school systems; child labor laws; and mining laws.
