Collections

The collection consists of records from the Ward College of Technology from 1948 to 2003.

Correspondence, writings and a few essays by others on ecology, Indians, and Darwinism. The main portion of the correspondence (1943-1958) is with John Collier on the subject of Shepard's last book, The Living Whole. His writings reflect interests in the environment and related scientific subjects, and the papers include both published and unpublished works.

The records document the effect of war time emergency measures on student religious work on college and university campuses throughout the United States during the years 1942 to 1944. The War Emergency Council on Student Christian Work was established in 1942 to deal with the readjustments made necessary by the impact of World War II on college and university campuses. The Council collected and disseminated information, arranged regional consultative conferences, and worked as an intermediary between the United States military establishment and student religious movements.

The collection consists of posters published in nations involved in World War I, 1914-1918, the Spanish Civil War, and World War II, 1939-1945. Great Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Canada, Australia, Ireland and other nations are represented through posters depicting such diverse topics as recruitment, enlistment, conservation, war loans, civilian service, home relief, foreign relief and propaganda messages. Posters issued by government agencies, social organizations, and private concerns are included.

Correspondence, essays and memorabilia of Warren Bartlett Seabury, a missionary in China who helped plan and organize the Yale Foreign Missionary Society. Correspondence with his family (1904-1907) and reports on his work for the Society and the founding of the Yali Middle School are included. Among his correspondents are Harlan Page Beach, Edward Bliss Reed. John P. Rice and Arthur C. Williams.

The collection consists of a photograph album titled "A Pictorial Record of the Class of 1892 in Yale College." The album contains photographs of various student activities, classmates, campus scenes, and aspects of student life at Yale in the 1890s. The album belonged to Warren Gookin Waterman (Yale 1892).

The papers consist of correspondence, photographs, writings, printed matter, financial records, and memorabilia documenting Warren Lowenhaupt's years as a student at Yale University (1910-1917), at Columbia Law School (1926), as an officer in World War I, and as curator and research associate at the Yale University Library (1952-1967). His principal correspondents are Emile Victor Bonnet, Charles Burpee, John Lindsay Moore, Frederick B. Kaye, William Lyon Phelps and Arthur E. Case. Much of the correspondence and financial papers relate to purchases of rare books, bookplates, and art objects. Approximately two hundred photographs are also in the papers, nearly half of which show European scenes and events relating to World War I.

Chiefly fragments of manuscripts from Warren Ives Bradley's published books. Also included is a scrapbook of reviews, household expense lists and photographs of Bradley and his brother, Oliver Burritt Bradley.

This collection documents the voyage of the S.S. Jelling in support of the Pan American Airways Expedition of 1933, led by Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, to chart northern air routes to Europe and survey possible landing sites for aircraft on trans-Atlantic flights. Dr. Warren L. Duffield, the medical officer for the expedition, kept a daily log of the voyage, which included stops in Labrador, Greenland, and Iceland. An enthusiatic amatuer photographer, Duffield also took numerous photographs. These materials, and articles written by Dr. Duffield after the voyage, comprise the bulk of the collection. There are also postcards, pamphlets and currency from Greenland and Iceland, some newspaper clippings and articles on the voyage, and a small amount of correspondence.
