The Republicans swept the election both nationally and in Connecticut. - In one town a democratic selectman won by 5 votes prompting a Republican demanded for a recount.

It’s possibly that 59% of the people in Connecticut voted straight party ticket for Republicans.  Across the State, Republicans were getting more than 60% of the vote.  In the State wide elections, President Harding and Governor Lake took 63%, while Senator Brandegee would receive 59%, around 24,000 votes fewer.  Suggesting a small amount would split their ticket.
