The papers consist of autographs and collected letters, sermons, teaching materials, research notes and documents, and the typescript of Kenneth Cameron's master's thesis on Othello (1931). A large part of the papers relates to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Hartford, Connecticut and contains a substantial collection of the sermons, writings and speeches of the Reverend Ernest Fremery Miel, manuscripts of Sir Arthur Gorges, sermons of Joseph G. H. Barry and papers relating to the construction of the church, 1870-1874. Also in the papers are a number of Civil War documents, including papers of P. P. Pitkin and letters to the U. S. Treasury from officers of the U. S. Colored Regiments. Another group of letters, written between 1885 and 1917, to Samuel Hart, concerns the American Book of Common Prayer. Also included are research materials on the Concord School of Philosophy and Literature.

Correspondence and other papers of several members of the Sergeant family of Massachusetts and Connecticut. Major correspondents include George Sergeant (1822-), of Northampton, Massachusetts; his sister, Catharine Sedgwick Sergeant De Forest, married to Dr. Henry A. De Forest; and his daughter, Catharine De Forest Sergeant (1848-). The collection contains correspondence on female education in Syria and education of women in the United States. Later letters, mainly in the 1870s, describe the experiences of women as students and as teachers in Princeton, New Jersey, Chicago, West Haven, Connecticut and elsewhere. Also includes family photographs and daguerreotypes.

The papers consist almost entirely of family correspondence among Johnson, his wife, children, and parents, including letters from Johnson as a student at Yale University. Among the family correspondents is Theodore Dwight Woolsey, an uncle of Johnson's. Also in the papers are account books (1877-1894) and a small amount of correspondence with friends and professional associates.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, research materials, scrapbooks and photographs documenting Maurice Nicoll's involvement with the ideas of P. D. Ouspensky and G. I. Gurdjieff. Included are manuscripts of an unpublished novel and short stories, seven scrapbooks, and a copy of Nicoll's five volume work Psychological Commentaries on the Teaching of G. I. Gurdjieff and P. D. Ouspensky. The scrapbooks contain clippings and photographs showing Gurdjieff with his group at the Prieuré Fontainbleu, as well as Nicoll's group which he formed in London. Three of the scrapbooks contain quotations from Gurdjieff's All and Everything with accompanying artwork, probably by a disciple of Nicoll's.
