Correspondence, memoranda, reports, printed material, writings, clippings, diaries, photographs, and miscellanea relating to Paul Moody Atkins, a financial management consultant, international economic and banking expert, author, educator, and special liquidator of securities for the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency (1932-1937). Atkins' professional work in Peru (1931), French West Africa (1940-1941), Iran (1943-1945), Greece (1947-1948), and Japan (1948) are documented through correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other material. His role on financial commissions and as a private consultant are further detailed in correspondence with Mrs. Atkins and family members. Financial data from Atkins' service as special liquidator details the security transactions and operations of this office from 1932-1937. Other professional materials document Atkins' participation on the American Commission to Negotiate Peace (1919), the National Management Council (1950-1951), as an educator and lecturer at Rutgers University (1956-1962), and as a private lecturer (1960-1977). Family papers include the World War I diary of Henri Bergier, Atkins' father-in-law, who was a judge in occupied Cabrai, France during the First World War.

The principal figures in these papers are Phillips Foster Greene, a physician and missionary, and his wife, Ruth Altman Greene, a teacher and writer who accompanied her husband during his service of nearly twenty years at the Yale-in-China Medical School in Changsha (1921-1943) and seven years in Rangoon (1951-1958). The papers consist largely of correspondence with family in the United States and with Yale-in-China staff members. The letters are important sources of information on social conditions in China and political events, as well as a record of the Greenes' day-to-day activities. Also in the papers are financial records, newspaper clippings, copies of their articles on life at Changsha, and photographs.

The papers consist of correspondence; writings on linguistics, science and religion; miscellaneous biographical material; and lantern slides. Nearly three-fourths of the papers consist of Benjamin Whorf's writings on linguistics, including drafts of published works, unpublished manuscripts, research notes on his trip to Mexico in 1930 and on Hebrew, Maya, Hopi and other languages. Also included are articles by others, chiefly on Indian languages. The correspondence, which is entirely professional, includes Franz Boas, Frans Blom, Clyde Kluckhohn, Alfred Kroeber, J. Alden Mason, Edward Sapir, Herbert Spinden, Alfred M. Tozzer, George L. Trager and Charles F. Voegelin.

Morrow, Jr., illustrates Dwight, Jr.'s, changing mental state and its impact on the family.
