The Arthur A. Cohen Papers provide evidence of the writing, editing, and publishing career of Arthur Allen Cohen between 1940 and 1986. The Papers consist of correspondence, writings, personal papers, photographs, audiovisual material, legal and financial documents, and clippings relating to Cohen's writing, publishing companies Noonday Press and Meridian Books, and work editing the Documents of Twentieth Century Art series for Viking Press. Cohen's interest in theology (particularly Judaism) and art are also reflected in the Papers, particularly his writing and publishing projects.

The majority of the collection consists of production programs, photographs, window cards, posters, and other publicity material relating to theatrical productions produced by Benjamin Mordecai at Yale Repertory Theatre and on Broadway. Award certificates, plaques and trophies he received as producer of Angels in America, The Piano Lesson, Seven Guitars, and other productions are included in the papers. In addition, there are legal and financial documents, correspondence, and other material relating to the production Golden Child, and computer disks containing Jitney production records. Audiovisual material includes videocassette and compact disc recordings of theatrical productions, Tony Award programs, and Benjamin Mordecai's memorial service, and a long-playing record album of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

The collection includes correspondence, writings and research material, photographs, printed material, and personal papers relating to American author Bernard Wolfe. There is correspondence, including incoming and outgoing letters, with family, friends, writers, publishers, editors, and labor organizations. Individual corrrespondents include: Pearl Buck, Marcel Duhamel, Dwight MacDonald, Henry Miller, A. J. Muste, John Crowe Ranson, Harry Ross, and Wolfe's brother Albert; there is a third-party letter from Frida Kahlo to Leon Trotsky. Writings include corrected drafts of Wolfe's best-known novels, the science-fiction work Limbo (1952) and The Great Prince Died (1959), which was based on Trotsky's assassination. Other works include an "Outline for a Study of the Role of the Negro in American Popular Culture," essays on Connecticut labor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and short fiction, some of which was published in Playboy in the 1960s. There are photographs, circa 1937, of Wolfe, Trotsky, Trotsky's wife Natalia Sedova, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Max Shachtman, and others. Printed materials include research material relating to Thomas Mann, clippings, and ephemera.

The Carl and Shelley Smith Mydans Papers contain photographic prints, slides, negatives, correspondence, notebooks, drafts of writings, objects, and audiovisual material documenting the careers of Carl Mydans, a photojournalist, and Shelley Smith Mydans, a journalist and novelist. The material dates from 1930 to 2005 and provides insight into the Mydans' careers including their work for Life magazine and their book projects. The papers include photographs taken by Mydans while working for the Farm Security Administration, Life magazine, and Black Star photography agency. The Mydans lived and worked abroad for several years and their papers include photographs taken during their various assignments in Asia and elsewhere. Material relating to the Mydans' friends and colleagues, such as Alfred Eisenstaedt, can be found in the papers.
