Below the illustration is a short passage taken from "From Yarico to Inkle: An Epistle," a poem of unknown authorship drawn from a story first included in Richard Ligon's A True and Exact History of the Island of Barbadoes, beginning with the line: "Ah! now the ship unfurls its crackling sails."
