Bruce Nugent's correspondence consists of family, professional, and personal correspondence, including letters from homosexual love interests. Writings include poetry, short non-fiction pieces, and various fiction pieces, including the novel Gentleman Jigger. Writings by others include drafts and papers relating to Gay Rebel of the Harlem Renaissance by Thomas H. Wirth. Photographs consist of portraits and snapshots of Nugent, his love interests, friends, and family. The bulk of the audiovisual materials consist of interviews with Nugent. Printed materials include books inscribed to Nugent as well as various clippings and ephemera.

The papers document his work between 1962 and 1989 in a number of professional positions: as owner of the off-Broadway Pocket Theater; manager of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company; general manager for the Brooklyn Academy of Music; program director for the New York State Council for the Arts; and as a consultant to television and radio stations, dance companies and art museums in the Northeast. Lloyd also was an avid collector of theatre and dance memorabilia. Along with his personal papers are books, production programs, posters, photographs and other materials documenting the history and productions of Alvin Ailey, Ballets Russes, the American Ballet Company, New York City Ballet, Twyla Tharp, as well as dancers and choreographers.

A local art professor collected the fliers that document portions of underground culture in the San Francisco Bay Area that influenced and reacted to the music scenes. The fliers are chiefly monochrome photocopies usually on 8.5-by-11-inch paper with graphical and textual elements. The guide to the collection identifies acts and venues as well as dates for shows and events.

The Nina Berberova Papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, personal papers, memorabilia, and printed materials. The correspondence consists of personal letters from such famous Russian emigre writers and artists as Georgii Adamovich, Ivan Bunin, Zinaida Gippius, Roman Gul', Georgii Ivanov,Aleksandr Kuprin, Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Vladimir Nabokov, Aleksei Remizov, Gleb Struve, Marina TSvetaeva, Boris and Vera Zaitsev. There are 67 letters and 9 cards from Vladislav Khodasevich to Berberova, written during the 1920s and 1930s. There is also a voluminous correspondence with scholars of Russian literature.The writings consist of holographs, typescripts, and research notes or publication material for most of Berberova's major books and shorter writings. Material from her years in the United States (1950-1993) predominates. Her autobiography, Kursiv Moi, and her biography of Moura Budberg, Zheleznaia Zhenshchina, are extensively documented. Also present in the collection are Berberova's diaries from 1960 through 1993, family photographs from the 1910s and 1920s as well as snapshots of Berberova with a number of contemporaries and friends, personal effects belonging to Khodasevich, tapes of radio and television interviews, and an audio tape of Berberova reading selections of her own poetry. The Vladislav Khodasevich Papers consists of a portion of Khodasevich's correspondence and writings preserved by Berberova. There are some notes, clippings, and ephemera that were separated from the printed componenet of the papers, as well as some annotated printed materials.

The Western Film Collection consists of press kits, pressbooks, posters, photographs, souvenir programs and other materials that were distributed by film producers to movie theater operators to promote their films. The Western films represented in this collection are Western genre films, films set in the trans-Mississippi West, and/or films with Western characters. Press kits typically include advertisements prepared for submission to newspapers and magazines; black-and-white photographs of scenes from the films with credit information; printed booklets called pressbooks containing information about the film, actors, and other personnel; and posters for lobby display. Early press kits were called "campaign kits." While the majority of press kits included in the collection consist of foldered printed material, there are several examples of electronic press kits on compact disc. The Buddy Holly Story pressbook contains a "flexi disc" recording bound in.

The collection primarily documents Erdoes's activities between 1968 and 1999, and is useful for the study of his writing process and research interests, specifically his work with American Indian individuals and communities. Papers relating to political and counterculture activism document Fouratt's involvement with movements and events of the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the Youth International Party (Yippies) and the 1967 Central Park Be In. Papers relating to gay rights and AIDS document Fouratt's activism and work with organizations including the Gay Liberation Front and ACT UP. Papers relating to nightclub management document his work at Hurrah!, Danceteria, and other clubs, and papers relating to band management document Fouratt's work with a wide range of musical acts. The collection includes images created by Brady during the American Civil War and documents the continual use of these images into the early twentieth century by Handy and his studio. The collection reflects the operations of the Brady and Handy studios in Washington, D.C., from the middle of the nineteenth century through the early twentieth century. It contains work by other photographers and other studios collected by Handy, as well as camera lenses and other photographic artifacts. A significant part of the collection records the development and production of Poia, an opera based on Piegan Indian legends, composed by Arthur Finley Nevin, with a libretto by Randolph Hartley (1870-1931).

The Peter Newell Family Papers consists of correspondence, manuscripts, printed material, photographs, drawings, paintings, prints, toys, and sculpture by or relating to Peter Newell and his family, including his sons-in-law Howard McCormick and Alfred Z. Baker. Correspondence files contain letters from artists, writers, and editors of the period; family in Kansas, Illinois, New Jersey; Clendenon Sheaf Newell at Cornell University; as well as family friends Frances Sage Bradley, Walter Karig and Charles Edward Smith. The collection includes over 3,000 sketches, preparatory drawings, finished illustrations, printed proofs and tearsheets for Newell's book and magazine work. There is correspondence with publishers and editors, galleries and cultural organizations, writers, friends, and family. The research files and writings document work by Malanga and others. There are drafts, autograph manuscript and typescript, of a great many individual poems by Malanga and more extensive, though scattered files for collections of poems and other book-length projects, such as Ten Years After (1977), This Will Kill That (1983), Mythologies of the Heart (1996), and Scopophilia (1985). Materials can also be found for projects that relate to Malanga's work as a photograph archivist for the New York City Parks Department, including books on Robert Moses and public swimming facilities in the city. Photographic materials include negatives, contact sheets, and prints, and feature portraits of writers and artists, chiefly American poets, dating from the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Glenway Wescott Papers consist of correspondence, journals, notebooks, manuscripts, personal and financial papers, research files,photographs, graphic items, clippings, objects, and audiotapes. The material documents Wescott's life, work, and personal relationships with many noted artists, writers, and performers of the 20th century including his long-time companion, Monroe Wheeler, many of whose papers are included here.
Series I, Correspondence, consists of six subseries: Wescott-Wheeler Correspondence (letters between the two men); Wescott Family Correspondence; Wescott Family Third-party Correspondence; Wheeler Family Correspondence; General Correspondence; and Third-party Correspondence.
Series II contains Wescott's Journals and Notebooks, an extensive collection of personal records detailing the author's life and thoughts from the late 1930s up to shortly before his death. Wescott's "journals" are in the form of three-ring binders, filled with notes, clippings, copies of letters, and images.
Series III, Writings, represents a portion of Wescott's original works. The writings are divided into five subseries: General Writings (including drafts of an autobiography, "The Odor of Rosemary"); Writings about People; Lectures, Broadcasts and Speeches; Writings about Glenway Wescott; and Writings of Others.
Personal Papers contains a range of material documenting the various activities of Wescott and Wheeler arranged in 18 subseries. Financial Papers, gathers together material in a chronological run, from 1925 through 1986. Series VI contains Wescott's own Research Files of various subjects. Photographs are grouped into ten subseries. Graphic Items consists of various image materials. Clippings covers a wide range of subjects, with a focus on art, book reviews, current events, essays and articles, and people. The Adele Gutman Nathan Theatrical Collection Addition consists of letters, manuscripts, printed material, and photographs documenting the life and career of Nathan's life and achievement in the theater, as an author, as a journalist, and as a pageant producer. Included in Series I are drafts of a children's book about Major John Andre, drafts of a novel, "What is a Man Profited," printed copies f newspaper columns by Nathan, motion picture scenarios programs for the Cellar Players and the Little Lyric Theatre, production materials for a number of pageants in such locales as Rochester, New York, Niagara Falls, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Included in Projects in Series II are notes chronicling Nathan's participation in the motion picture, Reds. Among the correspondents in Series III are Fannie Hurst, Padraic Colum, Leon Kroll, and Eugene O'Neill. Series IV. and V. contain various personal papers, such as scrapbooks, and photographs.
Series VI comprises items from Nathan's sister, Elizabeth Gutman Kaye, a painter and singer of folk songs.

The collection primarily consists of correspondence and production files related to publications issued by the Press of the Woolly Whale, including original and carbon typescripts, corrected page proofs and galleys, paper samples, title page and endpaper designs, dummies, notes, and receipts. Some of the production files hold original artwork for illustrations; also present are four photoengravings used to print endpapers for Melbert B. Cary's two-volume work Mademoiselle from Armentieres. In addition, the records contain the press's archival set of Woolly Whale publications including ephemeral items such as prospectuses, invitations, broadsides, holiday cards, mailing labels, and certificates, as well as four chronologically arranged scrapbooks created by Cary to hold samples of ephemera, reviews of the press's work, and other clippings. For his productions Cary employed favorite artists such as Alban B. Butler, Warren Chappell, W. A. Dwiggins, Willi Harweth, Fritz Kredel, and Philip G. Reed, and authors including Richard Le Gallienne; several of the volumes in the press copies set have bespoke bindings by prominent hand binders Katharine Adams, Douglas Cockerell & Son, Peter Franck, Otto Fratzscher, and Gerhard Gerlach. Other correspondents in the collection include Paul and Rudolf Koch, Robert Winslow Gordon, and firms such as Gebrüder Klingspor.

The records date from the organization's founding in 1949 and include administrative correspondence, application files, financial and fund-raising records, internal reports, audio recordings and transcripts of guest lectures and craft discussions, audio recordings of board meetings and play readings, photographs, scrapbooks holding clippings about the organization, artwork and production materials for New Dramatists newsletters and publications, and other files related to the group's management and activities, including the ScriptShare program. Prominent in the collection are more than seven hundred play and screenplay scripts which formed a script library at the New Dramatists' office. They include drafts and final scripts by playwrights Robert Anderson, James Baldwin, Sydney Chandler, James Leo Herlihy, Romulus Linney, John McGowan, Lanford Wilson, and John Wolfson, among others, some of which are annotated with production notes. Unique to the collection are a group of whimsical doodles created by theatre celebrities and a set of autographed sign-in boards from the New Dramatists' annual spring luncheons (1980-1996). With the exception of one play script from 1931, the records primarily date from the organization's founding in 1949 through the 1988-1989 season.

The Western Filmscript Collection consists of over two thousand filmscripts dating from 1918 to 2008, for motion pictures set in the trans-Mississippi West. The collection includes continuity, cutting, dialogue, and shooting scripts in a range of drafts from initial to final, and in some cases revised versions of the same draft. Scripts for produced, as well as unproduced, films are represented. Highlights include: fifteen Tom Mix silent scenarios from 1919 through 1927; four scripts by Zane Grey, including Riders of the Purple Sage (1931); eleven scripts directed by John Ford, including My Darling Clementine (1946), Stagecoach (1938), and Fort Apache (1947); five films featuring Gary Cooper, including The Virginian (1929), High Noon (1952), and Springfield Rifle (1952); eleven featuring Clint Eastwood, including For a Few Dollars More (1966), Dirty Harry (1970), and Pale Rider (1985). Scripts set in the twentieth-century West include American Graffiti (1972), Beverly Hills Cop (1984), The Buddy Holly Story (1978), Heaven's Gate (1979), The Long Goodbye (1972), and Terms of Endearment (1981). In addition to scripts written for theatrical release, there are scripts for episodes of television series including Rawhide, Death Valley Days, Dallas, and others.

Dreier portion of the collection contains correspondence between Dreier and artists and friends (including Constantin Alajalov, David Burli︠u︡k, Marcel Duchamp, Wassily Kandinsky, Man Ray, and Ted Shawn); and art-related organizations (including the Arts Club of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art).
There is some correspondence regarding art purchases and the packaging and shipping of art, such as that with George F. Of, Inc.; W. F. Collins & Co.; and W. S. Budworth & Son. There is a large amount of correspondence between Dreier and various departments at Yale (especially the Yale Art Gallery) regarding the transfer of the Société Anonyme's art collection to Yale. The collection contains manuscripts and notes for Dreier's articles, lectures, and books; her early diaries; and a brief autobiographical account; as well as some writings by others. There are subject files regarding organizations with which Dreier was affiliated, including the Cooperative Mural Workshops, the Long Ridge Women's Club, and the Society of Independent Artists.
The collection contains exhibition catalogs that were annotated by Dreier; exhibition catalogs of one-artist shows of Dreier's artwork; and material regarding Dreier's personal finances. There are many photographs of Dreier's artwork, of Dreier and her friends and family (including scenes in China from a trip that Dreier took, 1921-22), of artists and their artwork, and of exhibitions. There is also some original artwork by various people, including sketches, drawings, prints, and watercolors. The Dreier Family papers contain correspondence, poetry and skits, and writings (including a diary by Dreier's sister, Dorothea).
The Société Anonyme portion of the collection includes correspondence with members, potential members, and businesses; a logbook regarding exhibitions; financial material, including a checkbook; by-laws and amendments, and drafts of the certificate of incorporation; membership lists and cards; lists of officers and committees; meeting minutes; ephemera regarding exhibitions, lectures, and musical events sponsored by the Société; scrapbooks; and files of background material about artists represented in the published catalog of the Société Anonyme's art collection at Yale.

Writings are autograph manuscripts of poetry and prose compositions on linguistics, geology, and geography, including several drafts of his Report on the Geology of Connecticut, as well as chemistry notes by West Point professor James Cutbush. Percival's notebooks contain writings and notes on a broad range of topics in addition to his classroom notes from school, college, and medical school days. Personal papers include contracts, agreements, and subscriber lists related to his publications; inventories and invoices documenting his large library collection; and other financial papers, primarily bills for personal expenses including room, board, and clothing. Correspondence files hold letters to and from many prominent colleagues and scholars such as Benjamin Silliman and Edward C. Herrick in New Haven, friends including George Hayward in Boston, his publishers Sidney Babcock, Samuel G. Goodrich, and Samuel Walker, and editors such as Eliza Leslie and Louisa C. Tuthill. Percival was a member of the New Haven Sing-Song Club and the collection documents his contributions to that organization. The papers provide insight into the business practices of the nineteenth century publishing and bookselling trade, particularly in Massachusetts, and contain much material on lexicography, the development of American English, and the publishing history of Webster's Dictionary. Principal correspondents include Merriam Company editors Chauncey Goodrich, Noah Porter, William G. Webster, William A. Wheeler, and printers H.O. Houghton & Co. There are both legal and financial records, including contracts with agents and publishers, and opinions of lawyers on copyright issues.

Correspondence, writings, research files, personal papers, photographs, printed material and other papers documenting both the professional and personal activities of Donald Gallup as scholarly bibliographer, editor, curator of the Yale Collection of American Literature, and book and manuscript collector on his own account. The majority of the collection consists of Gallup's own papers, including personal, professional and editorial correspondence; a small amount of personal papers; research files; and typescripts and galley proofs of many of his publications, including his editions of the journals of Thornton Wilder and several volumes of works by Eugene O'Neill. Correspondents include the authors James Purdy, Sheri Martinelli, and Mary Bernetta Quinn and the Yale librarian James T. Babb. In addition, the collection contains some of the letters and papers by Modernist writers collected by Gallup personally and donated by him to Yale. The most extensive of these groups is the collection of letters by T. S. Eliot in Group X. Recipients include Arnold Bennett, Richard Cobden-Sanderson, Edgar Jepson, Alida Monro and Harold Monro, Brigit Patmore, John Carroll Perkins, and Donald Gallup himself. Series I, Correspondence, contains personal and professional correspondence. There is correspondence with family, Polish and European literary and cultural figures, other Polish emigres, and Latin American friends and writers. There is considerable correspondence with editors and publishers, including Jerzy Giedroyc, the Polish editor of Gombrowicz's works. Other Polish correspondents include Tadeusz Breza, Zofia Chadzynska, Jozef Czapski, Maria Dabrowska, Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz, Constantin Jelenski, Tadeusz Kantor, Maria Szczepanska Kuncewiczowa, Czeslaw Milosz, Zygmunt Mycielski, Artur Sandauer, Leopold Tyrmand, Kaimierz Wierzynski, and Jozef Wittlin.
Series II, Writings of Gombrowicz, consists of novels, plays, shorter works, autobiographical writings, and other writings. There are drafts and printed versions of shorter works, including stories, articles, interviews, and open letters. There are drafts of more significant works, including: holograph and typescript drafts of the novel Kosmos; holograph and typescript drafts of the play Operetka; drafts, with many fragments, of different Dziennik (diaries); and a typescript draft of Guide de la philosophie en six heures un quart.
Series III, Adaptations by Others of Gombrowicz's Works, contains theater scenarios, film treatments, and other material based on works by Gombrowicz. Series IV, Theater Programs, contains programs for theatrical adaptations of Gombrowicz's works. Series V, Writings of Others About Gombrowicz, contains articles, bibliographies, published letters, transcripts for radio broadcasts, theses and student papers, and material related to a special issue of the journal L'Herne, devoted to Gombrowicz, edited by Constantin Jelenski and Dominique de Roux.
Series VI, Commemorative Works and Activities, consists of obituaries and tributes issued in the months following Gombrowicz's death, and correspondence, organizational records, and printed material from commemorative events dating from the late 1980s. Series VII, Audiovisual Materials, includes both audio recordings and moving image media. Audio recordings encompass recordings of programs about Gombrowicz and adaptations of his works for radio. Moving image media includes amateur films, documentaries about Gombrowicz, and theater and film productions of Gombrowicz's works.
Series VIII and IX consist of Photographs and Personal Papers respectively. There are photograph albums of Gombrowicz for periods in Poland, Argentina, and Europe, and later photographs of theater and film productions and commemorative events. Personal Papers includes personal documents, family papers relating to the history of the Gombrowicz family, and a small number of writings by family members. Series X, Rita Gombrowicz Papers, contains material gathered by Gombrowicz's wife following his death, and is organized into subseries for correspondence, research files, writings, clippings, and printed ephemera.
Series XI, Clippings, consists of printed material, including journals, book catalogues, printed ephemera, and clippings of articles related directly to Gombrowicz and his work. Series XII, Posters, includes posters for plays, exhibitions, films, and festivals by Polish poster artists Franciszek Starowieyski, Jan Lenica, Waldemar Swierzy, Wiktor Sadowski, Wieslaw Walkuski, and others.

The Eugene O'Neill Papers document the life of dramatist Eugene O'Neill, especially his life with Carlotta Monterey O'Neill after 1928. Correspondents include O'Neill's lawyers, Harry Weinberger and Winfield E. Aronberg; his agent, the Richard J. Madden Play Company, Inc.; friends and colleagues; and family members, including his daughter, Oona, his sons, Shane and Eugene, Jr., his third wife, Carlotta, and her daughter, Cynthia Chapman Stram.
The collection also contains Carlotta's correspondence after O'Neill's death. There is correspondence with her lawyers at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft and at Nutter, McClennen & Fish; the Yale Library system regarding her gift of O'Neill's papers; biographers of O'Neill; others concerning her work on the production and publication of O'Neill's plays; and friends and family members. There are also letters from former husband Ralph Barton before she married O'Neill.
Writings include notes, outlines and plot summaries, drafts (typescript and holograph), proofs, contracts, programs, and clippings for many of O'Neill's plays. There are some poems and other writings, as well as his work diaries, in which he documented his writing schedule from 1924 to 1943. There are also some works by others about O'Neill's life and writing.
The personal papers include address books, membership certificates, awards for O'Neill's writing, Carlotta's diaries from 1928 to 1964, clippings and ephemera about friends and relatives, and financial material, including cancelled checks and checkbooks. The photographs document O'Neill, his family members, friends, colleagues, pets, and places where he lived and visited. Some of the photographs are in albums. There are also photographs of productions of his plays, from 1916 to 1966. The memorabilia includes office materials, writing tools, jewelry, and locks of hair, among other items. Artists represented in the collection include Cyrus Leroy Baldridge, Miguel Covarrubias, Alfred Joseph Frueh, and Robert Edmond Jones. Some of the artworks are portraits of O'Neill; others pertain to his plays; others were given to, or collected by, the O'Neills. The recordings (all after O'Neill's death) include three recordings of O'Neill plays and one tribute to O'Neill.
