The papers consist of fifteen typescript volumes of writings by Nicaraguan authors, poets, politicians and others, with autograph manuscript corrections, annotations, and additions by Franco Cerutti. The writings were selected, introduced, and edited by Cerutti and bound according to intended publication series: "Prosadores decimononios de Occidente," "Obras," and "Los liberales doctrinarios de Occidente." Each volume is signed by Cerutti and inscribed "San José [Costa Rica], 1980," and contains his library stamp and bookplate. A note regarding the works of Enrique Guzman in the front of the first of the Guzman volumes is dated 20 November, 1993. The volumes are otherwise undated. An additional volume includes typed transcriptions of articles, letters to the editor, and other items published in three Nicaraguan periodicals between 1854 and 1855, and contains Cerutti's signature and inscription "Managua 1970."

A collection of materials by Sartre acquired by George H. Bauer. The majority of the material consists of drafts for individual works in Sartre's series of novels collectively titled "Chemins de la liberté": a holograph and typescript draft of "La mort dans l'âme" and holograph draft pages of "La dernière chance", which contains a section titled "Drôle d'amitié" (which appeared in the journal, "Les Temps Modernes".) Also included are draft pages of essays on Jean Genet, Gjon Mili, a 1947 election, and other subjects, as well as a drawing titled "C'est mon amour aux Baux", and several letters: Fernando Gerassi to George H. Bauer (1962 Jul 28); a draft of a letter [by Sartre?] to an unidentified recipient; Les Éditions Nagel to Jean Cau (1949 Nov 16, on verso of a draft page); Comité français d'échanges avec L'Allemagne Nouvelle to Sartre (1948 Nov 20); and Les Éditions Nagel to Sartre (1948 Nov 16), these last two letters filed with the drafts of "La mort dansl'âme".

Watercolors and pencil drawings created by Henry Sommer related to the United States Army Utah Expedition, including sites, persons, and other activities chiefly in the Kansas Territory and Utah Territory, 1858-1860. An identified site in the Kansas Territory consists of a view of a camp, probably near Fort Leavenworth. Identified sites in the Utah Territory include military camps at Camp Crosman, Camp Floyd (later known as Fort Crittenden), and Fort Bridger. Activities include views of American bison hunting and hare hunting as well as views of soldiers in camps. Includes an interior view of the quarters of Lewis Henry Little as well as an interior view of a Mormon family at their home.

The George Foster Emmons Papers have been organized in four sections. The first section (WA MSS 166) consists of three manuscript journals (931 pages long) which Emmons kept while attached to the U.S. Exploring Expedition under the command of Charles Wilkes. Emmons wrote the journals while on board the U.S. Sloop of War Peacock, W. L. Hudson, Commander, August 12, 1838 to June 10, 1842. The journals contain an account of the expedition with detailed descriptions of the special surveys made by the Peacock, original drawings of the harbors, and a number of small drawings and diagrams. They are further illustrated by the insertion of portraits, engravings, maps, and extracts from Charles Wilkes' Narrative. Journal No. 3 contains a detailed account of the overland expedition that Emmons commanded from Vancouver to San Francisco, August to October, 1841. Emmons' account of the overland expedition is supplemented by that of Henry Eld (WA MSS 161). A number of letters and documents are inserted chronologically in the journals.

The collection is bound in seven volumes: two volumes of printed material relating to petroleum and other industries, three volumes of records of the Pennsylvania Rock Oil Company and the Adirondack Pulp Mills that document the creation and early growth of the companies, and two Bissell family photograph albums.

The collection consists of seven letters written by William Morris to friends and acquaintances, and a group of autograph manuscripts by Morris. One manuscript, "The Wood Beyond the World," is accompanied by a drawing made for the book by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, and two impressions of the resulting engraving. Also present is a letter to the American collector Dean Sage regarding one of the manuscripts.
