Moses F. Little papers, 1841-1916

A collection of 58 journals recording 72 years of Moses Little's life. He spent 1844-1848 aboard the whaler Arnolda, commanded by Captain D. U. Coffin out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. In 1849, Little joined the Sagamore Mining and Trading Company of Lynn, Massachusetts, and traveled to California, returning in 1851. Making a second trip to California in 1852 via the Isthmus to Panama City, he sailed on the Tennessee. He staked a claim in Sandy Gulch, Calaveras County, and returned to New York in 1853. Except for his trips to Chicago in 1869 visiting the stockyards and 1893 for the World's Fair, the remaining journals concern Little's life in Hill, New Hampshire, where he ran a general store and became interested in local politics.

The collection consists of letters, memoirs, photographs, annotated books, and other papers created and accumulated by Stuart Hayt Patterson, documenting his relationship with Ernest Thompson Seton and both men's experiences as ranch hands in New Mexico in the early 1890s. Highlights include drafts of Patterson's memoirs, featuring a chapter on Seton and the events that inspired Seton's book Wild Animals I Have Known (1898) and including rewrites by someone identified only as "Moore," letters from Seton and L. V. F. Randolph, annotated copies of Seton's books, and photographs of Patterson at various points in his life.

This collection, compiled by William H. Brown, contains a variety of financial documents concerning non-metallic mining companies operating in the North American West. Examples of these documents include charters, company descriptions, company correspondence, letters and notices to the stockholders, prospectuses, reports, stock exchange petitions, proxy statements, and reorganization and readjustment notices and agreements. While all of these documents are represented in the collection, they are not all represented by each company.

Collection, in multiple hands, of eight booklets bound into one volume, primarily on Parliamentary activities. The manuscript begins with a list of the members of Parliament between 1295 and 1327. Other items include extracts from Parliamentary journals; a list of the customs and privileges of both Houses of Parliament by Robert Bowyer; rules for the House of Commons; and, in Browne's hand, a patent transferring Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford's office of Constable of England to his brother, dated 1338.
