Horace Day papers, 1728-1915, bulk 1833-1874

The papers contain letters, writings, and records of the Day family. Series I holds letters sent to Horace Day from his parents Gad and Roxanna Day, his brother George Edward Day (Yale 1833), his cousin Lucinda Day, and his friends, Yale classmates, and colleagues including Edward E. Atwater, Erasmus Darwin Hudson, Charles Backus McLean, and Noah Porter. Also present are letters of recommendation written on Day's behalf by Jeremiah Day, Eleazar T. Fitch, Anthony D. Stanley, and Nathaniel W. Taylor. Personal Papers includes material investigating Gad Day's military service and a proposal from E. S. Goodrich to publish the Pioneer newspaper at St. Paul, Minnesota. Also present is a manuscript broadside announcing a music concert at sea and a printed broadside advertising Thomas Kimpton's Parcel Express shipping service from London to "all parts of the kingdom" as well as the colonies and and North America; they may be related to Day's trips to Europe in the late 1850s. Series II holds autograph manuscripts and typescripts of writings by Day and his daughter Sarah Day Woodward, including addresses delivered before the New Haven Colony Historical Society. Also in the series are a group of manuscript sermons by an unidentified author, dated 1728-1833, and newspaper clippings related to the history of New Haven, Connecticut, dated 1857-1915. Series III holds five financial ledgers for the Day & Fitch company dating 1845-1855, and one personal account book recording Day's expenses, 1868-1874. Series IV holds two volumes of Day's notes made during meetings of the New Haven Board of Education, 1882-1890.

Gianfranco Sanguinetti papers, 1948-2013

The collection consists of correspondence, writings, notes, clippings, photocopies, posters, printed materials, legal papers, photographs, and digital media documenting the life and work of writer Gianfranco Sanguinetti. Correspondence with Guy Debord and others relates to Sanguinetti's involvement with the Situationist International, including its dissolution, as well as Sanguinetti's expulsion from France in 1971 and his writing under the pseudonym "Censor" in 1975. Writings include drafts of Sanguinetti's Prove dell'inesistenza di Censor, Rimedio a tutto, Del terrorismo e dello stato, and other works. Photographs, mostly by Sanguinetti, show fellow Situationists including Guy Debord, Mustapha Khayati, Raoul Vaneigem, and others.

The papers are comprised of Robert Massie's original typescript, setting typescript, galley proofs, and page proofs for his book Nicholas and Alexandra (New York: Atheneum, 1967). Also present are some of his research notes, clippings and reviews of the publication, and three letters regarding the placement of these papers. Box 9 contains the original typescript of Massie's earliest version of the work, titled "The Last Days of the Romanovs," dating from 1964.

Silvia Dobson papers, 1945-1992

Collection contains letters from American poet H.D. (Hilda Doolittle) to Silvia Dobson, letters from the British author Bryher to Silvia Dobson and her siblings Mervyn and Norah Dobson, as well as copies of several letters from Silvia to Bryher and letters from Kenneth Macpherson. Letters from H.D. document her life in Switzerland and London for nearly thirty years and include information about H.D.'s analysis with Sigmund Freud. Letters from Bryher document Bryher's life in Switzerland in the 1960's and 1970's, the Dobsons' lives in America, and Dobson's efforts to publish her work. Included among the correspondence are letters to H.D. from Norah, Mollie, and Mervyn Dobson, and Frances Gregg; and notes by Silvia H. Dobson. Included in the collection are typescripts of seven novels by Dobson: Feathers of Lead, Guests of Existence, Honor Bound or Shattering Mirror Images, The Hut of Laurel, The Kindhart Trap, Somebody and Nobody, and Spring Begins in Autumn. Also included is an untitled autobiography which describes her life as part of H. D.'s literary circle, her relief work during World War II, her relationship with H.D., her identity as a lesbian, and her later life living in America; and her untitled manuscript "Mirror for a Star, Star for a Mirror. H. D.'s letters to Silvia Dobson."
