This sub-series contains a wide variety of writings, both scholarly and personal, authored or edited by Stuart Saunders Smith. Smith's published writings range from treatises on graphic notation, percussion, and the nature of music itself, to an interview with John Cage. The series also includes Smith's poetry, which he has written throughout his life, including periodicals that feature his works, as well as poems from his youth bound in delicate notebooks. Other personal writings include memo notebooks, loose leaf manuscripts of program notes, journal articles, and poems (or as he refers to them, "speech songs").
