The records of the Storrs Agricultural Experiment Station provide information on one of the oldest agricultural experiment and research stations in the United States. The records provide substantial information on the early years of the Experiment Station from 1888 to 1920. The majority of the records consist of correspondence to and from the executive and administrative staff of the station and local farmers and business organizations interested in obtaining information about the station's experiments and research findings.

Theodore Sedgwick Gold was born in Madison, New York. T.S. Gold graduated from Yale College in 1838 and then spent four years studying and teaching at academies in Goshen and Waterbury. He moved to Cornwall in 1842 to pursue a career in farming. Mr. Gold was a trustee of the Storrs Agricultural School from 1881 to 1901 and took an active role in promoting the school's growth and development throughout his lifetime.

The collection contains notes taken by brothers Albert C. Gilbert and Ralph D. Gilbert while attending Storrs Agricultural College. The notes cover Agriculture, Dairy and Veterinary classes between 1893 and 1896.

Arthur Joseph Pierpont was born 3 December 1876. He was a 1895 graduate of Storrs Agricultural College, now the University of Connecticut. A noted authority on agricultural matters, Mr. Pierpont was a member of the Waterbury Milk Producers Association, Trustee of his alma mater (Connecticut Agricultural College as of 1899) and manager of the College's Gilbert Farm, a working farm in Georgetown, Connecticut, bequeathed to the College in 1906.

In February 1891, a group of sixteen peach growers under the leadership of the Secretary of Agriculture, Theodore S. Gold, met in the State Capitol to talk about the formation of a fruit society. In December of that same year, forty growers met and elected John Smith of New Britain as president. Since its founding, the Connecticut Pomological Society has been involved in development of pest management and disease control for Connecticut's orchards.

Two "thoughts diaries" of the same period give one man's views on Christianity, human nature and slavery. Travel journals from the later part of the century describe trips through European countries; these also contain information on transportation and lodging. Those dating from the 20th century reveal much about the life of a Connecticut female artist and her thoughts and feelings concerning World War II. Also included is the 1943 diary of a University of Connecticut coed and the 1902 diary of a Hartford store employee.

In 1955, the Connecticut General Assembly authorized funding for the construction of a junior-senior high school in Mansfield, Connecticut, to be administered by the University of Connecticut. Francis T. Maloney was a United States Senator from 1934 until his death in 1945. Previous to that, he was a Congressman and, before that, Mayor of his hometown, Meriden, Connecticut. During World War I he was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve Force.

Garry A. Miles was an instructor at the University of Connecticut from 1933 (Extension, Asst. Poultryman 1933-?; Instructor, Poultry Husbandry by 1940-1943).

The Women's Club of Storrs began as the College Club in 1903. The purpose of the club, as stated in the first club constitution, was to promote literary and social culture. Membership was open to women connected with the [University of Connecticut] faculty, and included a few women faculty and faculty wives. A new constitution adopted in 1917 changed the name to the Women's Club of Storrs, and offered membership to "any woman of the community interested in the aims of the club."

Grace E. Snow was one of the first women to graduate from Storrs Agricultural College (1896), now the University of Connecticut. Collection contains her diploma, report card, dance program and publications.

Hugh Clark received his bachelor's degree from Clark University in 1934 and a doctoral degree from the University of Michigan in 1941. He was employed by the University of Iowa from 1945 to 1947, when he joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut. Clark specialized in developmental biology and retired from the University in 1983. The collection contains correspondence, administrative, professional and personnel files relating to Clark's responsibilities and interests.

The Alternative Press Collection (APC) is one of the oldest and largest collections of alternative press materials in the United States. The APC was founded in the late 1960s out of student participation in activist movements for social, cultural and political change. The library from the Radical Education Project of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was added to the collection in 1972.

Josephine A. Dolan was the first professor of nursing at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing. Miss Dolan collected materials to write a book on the history of nursing from dealers or, in the case of the Wolcott series, from descendants of the family.

Lois Greene graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1955. In 1956, she married Gerald E. Stone, M.D. Ms. Stone has published extensively and is well represented in museums and cultural institutions throughout the United States.

Martha Hewitt was the wife of Dr. Harold Hewitt. Dr. Hewitt was a professor of chemistry and Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut from 1947 until his retirement in February 1972. The collection contains a small amount of correspondence from Martha Hewitt to her family while traveling in Europe, documentation for her application to the DAR and other random personal papers. The majority of the photographs are of Mrs. Hewitt's family, although there are some of Dr. Hewitt.

Mildred P. French was the Dean of Women and Home Economics at the University of Connecticut from 1928 until her retirement in 1953.

The collection contains twelve volumes of herd and experiment (cheese making) records and was transferred from the Animal Science Department in 2000.

Archives & Special Collections, located at the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, was created by the merger of Special Collections and Historical Manuscripts and Archives in 1995. The new area moved into the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center upon its opening. President William Clinton officiated at the dedication of the Center and kicked off the "Dodd Year", a year long series of lectures, exhibitions and events. Although the Center houses several entities, the vast majority of the information in the collection pertains to Archives & Special Collections.

Founded in 1993, the Asian American Studies Institute at the University of Connecticut is a leading East Coast multidisciplinary research and teaching program that reflects the heterogeneity of both Asian American Studies and Asian America. The records of the Ombudsman's Office Records contains case files, administrative records, fliers, news clippings, and legal documents from the period the office existed at the university. The Office of the Ombudsman at the University of Connecticut was an office that was founded to mediate disputes among university members. The ombudsman acted as an impartial arbitrator who helped resolve disputes within the university community and was an advocate for fairness and equality.

Edwin O. Smith served as acting President of the Connecticut Agricultural College from April - September 1908. The one folder of correspondence pertains to the dual-job amendment before the Connecticut General Assembly in the late 1950s.

The Office of the Registrar compiles information about undergraduate courses and programs. The staff registers students, creates and maintains their records, provides certified documents, issues transcripts, processes grades, monitors NCAA student athletes' academic progress, and audits degrees. A significant portion of the collection is restricted from general use. In 2017, the Office of Graduate Records was incorporated into the Office of the Registrar.

The University of Connecticut's School of Business was established in 1941 as the School of Business Administration. The collection contains faculty minutes, accreditation documentation, and annual activity reports from the school's founding in 1941 until 1998.

In the Spring of 1969, the University of Connecticut devoted a whole semester to the study of the 1930s. An all-campus venture, the project drew on all the resources of the University and brought in distinguished visitors, some of whom had been cultural figures of that decade. Called "The Semester of the Thirties," this experiment in higher education probably brought together more aspects of a decade in cultural, political, economic, and social history than any such project undertaken by a university.

Walter Stemmons became Agricultural Editor at the Connecticut Agricultural College in 1918. The scope of his official responsibilities expanded rapidly as the college grew into a state university. He was director of the Division of Publications and University Editor until he retired in 1954.

The collection contains manuscripts of articles, book chapters, photographs and negatives collected or authored by Dr. Camp for his research. Dr. Camp was a Professor of Botany and Chair of the Botany Department at the University of Connecticut from 1953 until his death in 1963.
