Norman Zolot (August 13, 1920-February 6, 2017) was a New Haven, Connecticut, born attorney, active in representing labor unions in the state from the 1940s to the 2000s. The papers consist of his legal case files, primarily concerning labor disputes in the state of Connecticut between the years 1947 and 1979. In addition to legal case files, the collection contains printed reference materials related to state and national labor unions and issues pertaining to the period.

Jean Day Zallinger was born in February 1918, in Boston, Mass. She attended the Massachusetts College of Art and received a B.F.A. from the Yale School of Fine Arts in 1942. Mrs. Zallinger has illustrated numerous children's books, mainly non-fictional works about animals and plants, including such titles as Biography of a Leaf, Discovering What Earthworms Do, The Earliest Americans, and Sea Creatures Do Amazing Things.

The collection contains preliminary and original art created by Ed Young as illustrations for children's books.

The Maurice Sendak Collection of James Marshall contains books, drawings, paintings, and dummies created by James Marshall and owned by Sendak. The collection also contains a small wooden box that contains Marshall's watercolor brushes, eyeglasses, a pen, and a note in Sendak's hand.

Archives & Special Collections, located at the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, was created by the merger of Special Collections and Historical Manuscripts and Archives in 1995. The new area moved into the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center upon its opening. President William Clinton officiated at the dedication of the Center and kicked off the "Dodd Year", a year long series of lectures, exhibitions and events. Although the Center houses several entities, the vast majority of the information in the collection pertains to Archives & Special Collections.

The Connecticut Civil Liberties Union Records document the activities, history and administrative records of this organization. The collection contains the organizational documents of the New Haven Civil Liberties Council (1949-1958), administrative records of the CCLU (1958-1990) as well as the organization's materials pertaining to court cases.

In 1955, the Connecticut General Assembly authorized funding for the construction of a junior-senior high school in Mansfield, Connecticut, to be administered by the University of Connecticut. The school opened in the fall of 1958 and remained a division of the UConn School of Education until the summer of 1987.

In 1969, the Hartford National Bank and Trust Company became the first completely owned subsidiary bank of the newly established Hartford National Corporation. After this merger, the HNC had assets totaled over $1.1 billion. The purchase of Connecticut National Bank would almost double the number of banks under its management and increase its assets drastically. The HNC merged with Shawmut National Corporation. Hartford remained one of the two dual headquarters for the corporation until its eventual merger with Fleet Bank in 1995.

In 1898, the English Sewing Company of England purchases the Willimantic Linen Company and other New England mills and form the American Thread Company. The Willimantic mill was closed when the company moved to North Carolina in 1985.

L. Eugene Thomas was a professor in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Connecticut for many years. Much of his research was focused on the psychology of personality, specifically as it applies to human aging.

James McDonald Vicary was born in Detroit 30 April 1915. He has been associated with the J.L. Hudson Company (Detroit), Benson and Benson (Princeton, NJ), Crowell-Collier Publications Company (NY), and Benton and Bowles, Inc. (NY). Mr. Vicary is the author of articles on research in such journals as the Public Opinion Quarterly, Harvard Business Review, and Printer's Ink. Mr. Vicary is most known for his work with subliminal messages in advertising.

The collection contains publications, proposals, petitions, photographs and plans for the "new community" and documentation of the Greater Hartford Process, Inc.

A review of the International Studies program at the University of Connecticut was undertaken in the winter of 1987. At which a committee was formed to collect information on the existing programs at the University, review prior reports and plans, make recommendations and plans in light of expected reorganization and gather opinions from the campus community. Working from an earlier report (1985), the committee completed its work and disbanded by April 1987.

In February 1891, a group of sixteen peach growers under the leadership of the Secretary of Agriculture, Theodore S. Gold, met in the State Capitol to talk about the formation of a fruit society. In December of that same year, forty growers met and elected John Smith of New Britain as president. Since its founding, the Connecticut Pomological Society has been involved in development of pest management and disease control for Connecticut's orchards.

In June 1993, Dorothy Kijanka, Director of the Ryan Matura Library at Sacred Heart University, convened a group of library directors with the hope of forming a consortium, loosely modeled on WALDO, the Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization. Like the Westchester group, the envisioned Connecticut consortium would explore avenues of interlibrary cooperation, jointly seek grant funding, and serve as a forum for the discussion of mutual concerns.

Dr. Johansen was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Connecticut for nearly 20 years, from 1979 to 1996. In the early part of the 1980s Dr. Johansen performed an extensive study on Comparable Worth (an economic concept stressing equal pay for equal work, often applied to arguments of gender-based pay equity), including the collection of data on Comparable Worth initiatives in State legislatures. This work resulted in the publication of Comparable Worth: The Myth and the Movement in 1984. In 1990 Dr. Johansen published Political Corruption: Scope and Resources: an Annotated Bibliography. Prof. Johansen passed away in 1997 after a battle with cancer.

The records consist of the general correspondence of the President of the College . It is the only extant collection of the papers of the president for this period. The correspondence is concerned with internal administrative matters, major policy issues at the college, with the college's relations with state and federal governments, and with other educational agencies and institutions.

The Archibald M. Crossley Papers contains the personal and professional papers of survey research pioneer, Archibald M. Crossley. Reports, studies, questionnaires, correspondence and publications document the interactions, interests and activities of Crossley and his peers, as well as the polling organizations and companies with which he was associated.

The collection contains administrative records associated with the tenure of Harry J. Hartley, President of the University of Connecticut from 1990-1997.

Born in Cleveland in 1913, Mead spent most of his early years in Mexico, developing great facility in both English and Spanish. He worked for the OSS during World War II gathering intelligence from Latin American periodicals. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1949, Mead became a professor at the University of Connecticut. In addition to a long and prestigious career as a teacher of foreign languages, Mead was a prolific scholar on Hispanic literature and an advocate for improved Inter-American relations. He also edited the journal Hispania from 1957 to 1962. Mead traveled the world as a lecturer and as an advisor on the teaching of Spanish. He passed away in 1995.

Elmer F. Farnham was a resident of Norwich, Connecticut, and a features writer for the Norwich Bulletin. He was author of The Quickest Route: The History of the Norwich & Worcester Railroad, published in 1973 by Pequot Press. The collection consists of photographs of locomotives and railroad scenes of the Norwich & Worcestor Railroad, the Central Vermont Railway, and other southern New England railroads.

The Connecticut Nurses' Association (CNA) is a professional organization of registered Nurses in Connecticut and a member of the American Nurses' Association (ANA). CNA was established in 1904 as the Graduate Nurses' Association (GNA) of Connecticut out of the Connecticut Training School. Its main objective was to draft and introduce into legislation a bill to regulate nursing practice in Connecticut. The main headquarters of the CNA is located in Meriden, Connecticut.

The collection contains original and final artwork, sketches, correspondence, proofs, layouts, book dummies, illustrations, and galleys for twenty-three books illustrated by Loretta Krupinski.

The records consist of administrative, financial, and real estate documents associated with the Providence & Worcestor Railroad, a railroad in eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southern Massachusetts, founded in 1844 and leased by the New York & New England Railroad and subsequently the New Haven Railroad in the late 19th century. The company was part of the transfer of railroads to Penn Central in 1969 but resumed running as an independent line in 1973. The records also include small sets of records of the Norwich & Worcester Railroad, the Moshassuck Valley Railroad and the American Short Line Association.

Anita Riggio has illustrated a number of children's books and has also worked as a cartoonist and a commercial illustrator. The collection consists of original artwork and manuscripts for 25 children's books and two magazine articles, in addition to a selection of Ms. Riggio's production materials for her commercial work.

The collection contains publications, reports and documents collected by Mr. Finch in his various railroad-related positions.

U.S. Congressman Christopher Shays' congressional papers are contained in this collection. Shays was a Republican who represented Connecticut's fourth Congressional district from 1987 until 2008. He was the original co-sposor of the landmark Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, also know as "Shays-Meehan" and "McCain-Feingold," which banned federal elections soft money from corporartions, labor unions, and wealthy indiviuals and barred issue advocacy ads within 60 days of election unless hard money had paid for them. The records consist of his political notes, correspondence, and office files from his time as a United States Congressman.

Illustrations, drawings, and proofs of works by children's book author and illustrator Nonny Hogrogian. The collection contains materials related to more than two dozen works by Hogrogian.

Joseph A[nthony] Smith, children's author/illustrator and artist received his BFA from the Pratt Institute in 1958 and began teaching there in 1962. Smith continues to teach there in the Department of Painting and Drawing. The collection contains artwork for over thirty children's books.

Pegi Deitz Shea was born 22 September 1960, in Matawan, NJ, the daughter of George A. Deitz (a high school teacher and coach) and Margaret J. (a legal secretary) Devlin. She attended Rutgers College, Rutgers University (1982) and has been awarded the Evelyn Hamilton Award for Creative Writing, Rutgers College (1982).

Ted and Betsy Lewin both graduated from Pratt Institute and have illustrated and authored multiple children and young adult books.
