Collection of historical information, catalogs, publications, photographs and transparancies, and scrapbooks about the tool manufacturer Pratt & Whitney Company and its successors, collected by Leroy Roberts, a long-time employee of the company.

The collection contains newspapers, fliers, realia and similar materials associated with living in wartime Britain.

Archives & Special Collections, located at the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, was created by the merger of Special Collections and Historical Manuscripts and Archives in 1995. The new area moved into the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center upon its opening. President William Clinton officiated at the dedication of the Center and kicked off the "Dodd Year", a year long series of lectures, exhibitions and events. Although the Center houses several entities, the vast majority of the information in the collection pertains to Archives & Special Collections.

The Connecticut Civil Liberties Union Records document the activities, history and administrative records of this organization. The collection contains the organizational documents of the New Haven Civil Liberties Council (1949-1958), administrative records of the CCLU (1958-1990) as well as the organization's materials pertaining to court cases.

In 1955, the Connecticut General Assembly authorized funding for the construction of a junior-senior high school in Mansfield, Connecticut, to be administered by the University of Connecticut. The school opened in the fall of 1958 and remained a division of the UConn School of Education until the summer of 1987.

In 1969, the Hartford National Bank and Trust Company became the first completely owned subsidiary bank of the newly established Hartford National Corporation. After this merger, the HNC had assets totaled over $1.1 billion. The purchase of Connecticut National Bank would almost double the number of banks under its management and increase its assets drastically. The HNC merged with Shawmut National Corporation. Hartford remained one of the two dual headquarters for the corporation until its eventual merger with Fleet Bank in 1995.

In 1898, the English Sewing Company of England purchases the Willimantic Linen Company and other New England mills and form the American Thread Company. The Willimantic mill was closed when the company moved to North Carolina in 1985.

The collection contains the professional papers of Edward A. Khairallah, Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology, at the University of Connecticut.

L. Eugene Thomas was a professor in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Connecticut for many years. Much of his research was focused on the psychology of personality, specifically as it applies to human aging.

James McDonald Vicary was born in Detroit 30 April 1915. He has been associated with the J.L. Hudson Company (Detroit), Benson and Benson (Princeton, NJ), Crowell-Collier Publications Company (NY), and Benton and Bowles, Inc. (NY). Mr. Vicary is the author of articles on research in such journals as the Public Opinion Quarterly, Harvard Business Review, and Printer's Ink. Mr. Vicary is most known for his work with subliminal messages in advertising.

The collection contains publications, proposals, petitions, photographs and plans for the "new community" and documentation of the Greater Hartford Process, Inc.

A review of the International Studies program at the University of Connecticut was undertaken in the winter of 1987. At which a committee was formed to collect information on the existing programs at the University, review prior reports and plans, make recommendations and plans in light of expected reorganization and gather opinions from the campus community. Working from an earlier report (1985), the committee completed its work and disbanded by April 1987.

In February 1891, a group of sixteen peach growers under the leadership of the Secretary of Agriculture, Theodore S. Gold, met in the State Capitol to talk about the formation of a fruit society. In December of that same year, forty growers met and elected John Smith of New Britain as president. Since its founding, the Connecticut Pomological Society has been involved in development of pest management and disease control for Connecticut's orchards.

In June 1993, Dorothy Kijanka, Director of the Ryan Matura Library at Sacred Heart University, convened a group of library directors with the hope of forming a consortium, loosely modeled on WALDO, the Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization. Like the Westchester group, the envisioned Connecticut consortium would explore avenues of interlibrary cooperation, jointly seek grant funding, and serve as a forum for the discussion of mutual concerns.

Children's illustrator residing in Woodmere, N.Y., has illustrated over 300 books.

Dr. Johansen was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Connecticut for nearly 20 years, from 1979 to 1996. In the early part of the 1980s Dr. Johansen performed an extensive study on Comparable Worth (an economic concept stressing equal pay for equal work, often applied to arguments of gender-based pay equity), including the collection of data on Comparable Worth initiatives in State legislatures. This work resulted in the publication of Comparable Worth: The Myth and the Movement in 1984. In 1990 Dr. Johansen published Political Corruption: Scope and Resources: an Annotated Bibliography. Prof. Johansen passed away in 1997 after a battle with cancer.

The collection contains materials collected or written by Dr. Black pertaining to the geology of Connecticut, Wisconsin and Antartica.

Maps and track plans of property in Connecticut, Massachusetts, eastern New York, and Rhode Island belonging to the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Company and its predecessors, including the Hartford & New Haven Railroad, the Housatonic Railroad, the Naugatuck Railroad, the New York & New England Railroad, and the New York & New Haven Railroad.

The records consist of the general correspondence of the President of the College . It is the only extant collection of the papers of the president for this period. The correspondence is concerned with internal administrative matters, major policy issues at the college, with the college's relations with state and federal governments, and with other educational agencies and institutions.
