A noted educator, administrator, writer and researcher, Dr. May joined the faculty of the University of Connecticut in 1952 as Dean of the School of Home Economics at the University of Connecticut. She retired from the University in 1964.

Walter Ihrke, a composer and musician, served as Head of the Music Ddepartment at the University of Connecticut from 1949-1965. The collection contains scores and recordings as well as correspondence, publications and documentation of Ihrke's "Automated Musical Training" ["Ihrke Method"].

In 1957, the Connecticut Federation of Labor and the Connecticut State Industrial Union Council (CSIUC) merged to form the Connecticut State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, generally referred to today as the Connecticut State AFL-CIO. The stated purpose of the new organization was to provide a more effective means of promoting and coordinating the principles and objectives of the AFL-CIO in Connecticut.

The corporate records of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad document the history and impact of the system that dominated railroad transportation in southern New England from 1872 to 1969.

The collection reflects the many bureaucratic permutations of the Agricultural Economics Department from the late 1910s until after World War II. The collection spans many institutional name changes and reorganizations. The bulk of the collection is documentation of the state of agriculture in Connecticut. The surveys, and collection of data was conducted in collaboration with The USDA, State of Connecticut and the Extension Service, which was headed by one of three Directors of the school, then known as Connecticut Agricultural College, with the President as the Executive head of the College. Under him were three Directors, the two others being the Faculty and the Director of Instruction, and the Director of the Experimental Station.

The University of Connecticut's Women's Center collection is comprised of booklets, correspondence, notes, fliers, clippings, publications, legal records, and legal transcripts. The Center serves the needs of a diverse cross section of students on campus, and has provided counseling services, operated crisis centers, and brought awareness to numerous issues facing gay, African American, and divorced students, in addition to helping the victims of discrimination, assault, and rape. The collection contains ephemeral and artifactual materials created, collected, utilized, worn and/or associated primarily with members of the University community in conjunction with their experiences at or with the University of Connecticut.

The collection contains documentation on most, if not all, of the performance art programs associated with the School of Fine Arts at the University, although the primary focus is on the Connecticut Repertory Theatre program.
