Smith 5p', in mauve and white covers, 203 x 159, p1: 'An Open letter to Ian Hamilton Finlay': 1) Points from his letter. 2) Points about 'aspects of the book' exhibition at the V + A p2: "Quote from Stephen Duncalf's letter", centre-spread: polemical poems /texts (on subject of I. H. Finlay) incl. : The whole disaster of my life etc. 'Nancyboy in a wendy hut', on following pages: quote from Brillat-Savarin; Mid Atlantic elements; layout / drawings for 'a pamphlet Simon Cutts May 1974', (contents incorporates much of the material of the previous pages), colophon page: 'a private edition No.towards the end: 'The primary of the visual', also: 'Romantic by temperament Classicist by intention' last page: drawing of 'Nancyboy in a wendy-hut'. Two overhead projection positives Cover of this brochure marked in pen: 'PROSE PIECES' and booklet used effectively as folder for material laid in: Handwritten note referring to the heroes 'Mellors and Merrick' of p21–22, unrelated (?!) text on same card: 'When the wind blows fluffy while clouds scudding across the sky. In summer they are symptomatic of adultery' 'Building the cloud', typed yellowing sheet, with added notes in pencil: 'Fresh clouds for tea', 'Make some fresh clouds, anvil and nails'. 'The Wooden Ball', handwritten text on card, 'The ball had been carved out of wood like a plain jewel…' List of 'Prose Pieces' numbered 1 to 9 (No.9 left blank), handwritten, including 'Are earthquakes weather?', and 'sky cafe', on six stapled covers from 'a package of balloons' (1968), which when folded reveal an early dummy for 'QUELQUES PIANOS', (title written in pencil on cover), with two poems: 'a piano of print shapes the white air', 'slopes of concertinas and stair s', other pencil notes on clouds and weather. Possible texts: 1) Possibilities of a train story, 2) Possibilities of (small drawing of cross / clouds), with three more drawings on same subject, as handwritten notes on back of Arts Council list on POP ART show (1969) Two photographic prints, c 200 x 130, stamped on back of one: 'New Orient Liner Orion', and with additional typed caption / label: 'One of the Tourist Decks and the Tourist Swimming Pool'.
