Consists of a cased ambrotype, 9x9.5 centimeters, "A.P. Critchlow & Co., Manufacturers of Daguerreotype Cases. A.P.C. & Co. are the Original Inventors of the Composition for the Union Case, (so called,) including all the various shades of color and finenes of texture peculiar to their manufacture and of the Embracing Rivited Hinges, thus securing them from breaking out as do others that are inserted with or without a metal brace." printed on a paper attached to the case behind the plate, "This is F.M. Adams Yale 1841 and was copied by Bundy & Filley in cabinet size and is in the album with most of the pictures of that size -- cost of copy $1.50" handwritten on a paper formerly enclosed in the case.
