Abstract: Russell Sobin started working at American Brass Company in Ansonia in 1929, becoming the first Russian roller during the 1940s. He was also one of the first union stewards, signing up workers who spoke Russian, Polish and Lithuanian. Recalls his father serving on picket lines during the 1920 strike. Contrasts automated operations with hazardous conditions of earlier years in the factories.

Sandra is currently chairman of the union at New Haven Copper. Stella was a union shop steward. They both discuss their work, and the attitudes of the company and the other workers towards women performing traditionally male jobs.
