The collection contains notes, manuscripts, syllabi, research materials, correspondence, ephemera and similar materials associated with the professional career of the historian, Susan Porter Benson, a member of the University of Connecticut faculty from 1993 until her death in 2005.
This collection was started in 1993 when the Taxpayers' Alliance to Serve Connecticut lobbied the state government and the public against the balanced budget amendment, in favor of the Connecticut Income tax. It includes Publications, Administrative Records and Fliers.
Ted Berrigan, American poet, was born Edmund Joseph Michael Berrigan in Providence, Rhode Island. Berrigan's recognition as a poet came in 1964 with the publication of The Sonnets, for which he received the Poetry Foundation Award. Berrigan died in 1983.

Thomas Reed Lewis, Jr. (March 4, 1940-January 26, 2017), was the author of Silk Along Steel: the Story of the South Manchester Railroad (Pequot Press, 1976). He was a Professor of Geography at the University of Connecticut and Manchester Community College. The collection consists of maps, newclippings, timetables, correspondence, writings, photographs and postcards Dr. Lewis gathered for the writing of his book.
Thorvald Hammer was born in 1893. He was a leading industrialist and engineer in the state of Connecticut for over fifty years. He graduated from Yale University in 1918 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during the First World War. Thorvald Hammer became the president of the Malleable Iron Fittings Company (MIF) in 1935. An accomplished engineer, Mr. Hammer contributed to the development of the galvanizing process and was the holder of several original patents. After resigning from the presidency, Mr. Hammer assumed the position of Chairman of the Board. He died in 1987 at the age of 93.
