Contains a revised script for the film from writer/director Kasi Lemmons, singed on the title page by opening credits artist Dan Perri. Set in 1962 rural Louisiana, the story concerns a young girl who witnesses her father having an affair and, unable to forget that trauma, sets off a chain reaction that could destroy her family. Lemmons was one of very few African-American women directing movies at the time, and this film marks her debut as a feature film director.
