The Sandpiper, 1964 May 19 Box 189

Contains a final draft script for the Vincente Minnelli-directed film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. This film was the final for auteur Minnelli, coming at the end of a three-decade career. The screenplay was written by Dalton Trumbo and Michael Wilson (both Oscar winners who had been blacklisted for alleged communist sympathies), and was based on an original story by Martin Ransohoff. The story concerns a free-spirited single mother who falls in love with a married headmaster of an Episcopal school. Set in the Big Sur region of northern California, the film portrays the counter culture of the time and place.
