WestConn Archives' Bio and Morgue File
Scope and Contents
A very modest effort was made in the early years of the WCSU Archives to maintain media mentions of the University. That effort was undertaken in earnest by University administration and it appears few additions were made to the files until the late 1990s. Around the Centennial, more additions were made and the collection has grew slowly over the next twenty years. Efforts were made in 2022 to maintain born digital materials. The collection is primarily news clippings and obituaries, but occasionally, there are notes written about persons, or found information on a particular topic. Some researchers have shared their findings and at times those have been included when deemed appropriate.

Western Connecticut State University was founded in 1903 as the Danbury Normal School - a two-year state tearchers' college. An archive was founded in 1977, five years before the transisiton from Western Connecticut State College to University. The archive held materials that related to institutional and local history and a morgue file was established presumably to document "present" history.
