General note
Series of articles/chapter installments with editorial comments on Barnum's autobiography Struggles and Triumphs - Recollections of a Lifetime. This file gives information on Barnum's birth, life, the establishment of his American Museum and some good information on his philanthropic activities, his endowments to Tufts University, Boston (Barnum Hall), his Universalist Church connections and close relationship to Bridgeport (one time mayor) and Bethel. Good reprints of old photo/lithographs from his various European and world tours-a good source for costumes, dress, circus memorabilia, and insight into the lives of the performers and star attractions, e.g., Jenny Lind, Charles Stratton, a.k.a. "General Tom Thumb" and his wife Lavinia Warren.
