Sarah H. McCarthy (1868- ) was married to John McCarthy (b. 1856 in Ireland). McCarthy owned a lumber yard in Danbury. Sarah was John's second wife and she kept this diary during the years that coincided with the First World War. Among her brief entries on social engagements, she participated in fundraising and other activities in support of the War effort. The diary was Xeroxed in the late 1970s and the whereabouts of the original is unknown.
