Topics discussed : (side A): Background; lived in Seacliff, Long Island when he was hired; hired by Dr. Harold Burke; Burke met him in Chicago in 1968 at the A.C.U conference; the Chicago Riots were happening at time; came to WestConn for an interview and met w/ Dr. Haas and Dr. Cook; Role at WestConn; oversaw the Student Union; Bob Wilson; began the radio station out of a closet; Lounges in Student Center; named after various towns in CT; Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, and Hartford (also a CT Lounge); Vietnam War; not many protests; recalls only one where students were carrying casket in protest of events at Ohio State; Minorities at WestConn; few students or faculty; James Furman in music only faculty member he can recall; "Pub Nights"; nights where clubs organized events where alcohol was served; went on for awhile until vandalism rose on campus; began as a way to keep students who might go out drinking off roads; Construction/renovation of the Student Center; sees great opportunity once it is completed; WestConn can't exist w/out it he believes; Westside; original plans had the entire school moving there; plans for 4; 6 residence halls; student center to be in middle of campus w/ all buildings connecting to it; economy played role in change of plans; still believes that everything will move there eventually; Ancell building; original purpose was for psychology; 5th floor has a viewing room and 2; way mirrors for that purpose; many don't know this about the 5th floor; Retirement; doesn't miss WestConn because he believes life moves on; enjoyed time at WestConn and is taking courses at WestConn now (side B): Music; loud volume can damage hearing w/ out one knowing it; compares it to smoking effects; WestConn history; starting as the Normal School in Old Main; Renovation needs if moving to Westside; they have been ignored and need to be repaired; Spring Weekend; shows out on by the different classes; ended because of the stricter copyright laws
