A Methodist Society was organized among Starrs Plain and Long Ridge residents shortly after 1793. In 1820 a church was built on this site, and in 1842 the present church was erected. At first the church shared preachers with West Redding, a mile and a half to the south. The church is a good example of a small rural Greek Revival church. Rory Starr was a master builder and lay preacher who served this church and may have designed the building. The church was an auxiliary of Redding until 1848, then was tied to the church in Bethel, becoming separate sometime in the 1870s.
