An invitation to the Rev. Alvin Kershaw to speak at a Religious Emphasis week at the University was withdrawn because of Kershaw's support of the NAACP. Other participants, including Chauncey, withdrew in support of Kershaw. Ole Miss faculty resigned in protest.
