This series includes bookplates #1-#217 by Spenceley, which are identified and numbered according to the descriptive checklist published by Andreini in 1910. Patrons for whom Spenceley created multiple bookplates are indicated with Roman numerals, according to the convention employed by Andreini.

This series includes bookplates that have been attributed to Spenceley by various bookplate collectors, although none of the materials are identified in Andreini's checklist. The series also contains some trial proof plates as well as a bookplate designed for Spenceley by Herbert Gregson in 1902.

This series includes unnumbered bookplates which were identified in Andreini's checklist either as "not in use as book plates" or as "unfinished coppers."
