Fate of Hatters's homes in balance

The United Hatters Union lost their case in 1908 and in 1915 it was decided that they had to come up with 215,000 to pay for the damages caused to Deitrich Loewe. Loewe had put up advertisements to auction some of the Hatters' houses. Martin Lawlor in July, 1917 brought Loewe a compensation check of 175,000. Before this case occured many people were not aware that unions could be held personally liable for damages or that their houses can be taken away to pay off any retributions if the plaintiff wins.
