J.H. ELLWOOD DEAD.

Former Fire Chief Passes Away in New York City.

The death of John H. Ellwood, of this city, occurred this morning at the Post-Graduate hospital in New York city. After an illness of about two weeks. Pleuro-pnemonia was the cause of death.
Mr. Ellwood, who was a hatter, had been employed in New York about ten years, but maintained his home in this city and came here frequently. His family resides at 16 Smith street.
Twenty years ago few men were better known in this city than Mr. Ellwood, who was chief engineer of the fire department for several years, after long membership in the department.
The funeral of Mr. Ellwood will be held in this city, but the arrangements have not yet been completed.

J.H. ELLWOOD’S FUNERAL

Large Gathering at Service in Baptist Church To-day.
---------------
The funeral of John H. Ellwood, who died in New York city last Saturday, and whose body was brought to this city, his former home, yesterday, was held at the Baptist church this afternoon at two o’clock. Representatives of the Danbury fire department, of which Mr. Ellwood was the second chief, were present at the funeral. Members of Ben Miller council, Jr. O.U.A.M., and Danbury lodge, B.P.O. Elks, as well as a large number of friends and acquaintances attended the services.
The service at the church was conducted by Rev. A.H. Boutwell. The Elds’ service was held at the grave in Wooster cemetery and was conducted by Exalted Ruler Howard C. Richardson and Prelate William F. Potter.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful, comprising pieces from all of the fraternal organizations of which the deceased was a member, as well as many friends of Mr. Ellwood and his family.
The pall bearers were Joseph T. Whittlesey and Charles A. Hodge, from Danbury lodge of Elks; Chief Thomas A. Lounsbury and Captain Charles T. Anson, from the Danbury fire department, and Cyrus E. Ryder and Councilman Clarence W. Judson, from Ben Miller council.
