In June, 1966, Danbury State College asked the Bureau of
Applied Social Research of Columbia University to conduct a study of the Danbury area. The purpose of this study was to identify community problems which might effectively be made the object of community service programs. The college received a special grant from the Commission on Cooperation with Federal Authorities of the State of Connecticut to support this study. Since funds were originally allocated through Title I of the Higher Education Act, it was expected that the findings of the study would have special relevance for programs of adult and continuing education, and that these findings could be used as guidelines for any future funding of the college under the provisions of Title I.
