The 27th Regiment is leaving, so the camp is all in commotion. He has not heard from his wife. He may write to her to go to Bridgeport if he cannot get liberty to go home. He may get a $50 Bounty before he leaves.

Dear Wife,
Having an opportunity to send a short letter by Mr. John Knapp. I expected a letter from you today but did not get it as yet. The 27th Regiment is to leave today, so that this camp is all in commotion. I have been out today for the first time fifing and got along with it first rate. I want to have you be particular to write to me twice a week at least as I shall have to rely upon the letters instead of seeing you. I may write to you to go to Bridgeport if I cannot get liberty to go home but I am in hopes that I shall be able to come home. I was determined that I will not leave the state without bidding you and the children good bye.
I do not know of any thing new transpiring that would particularly interest you. I think we shall get our $50 Bounty before we leave but am not certain. Well good bye from your loving Husband
