On Monday Jan 19th I was out to a party, I came home at around 10:30 pm. I passed a man at the corner, he was as tall as you are. He was a white man, I do not think that he had any beard on his face. If he did I did not notice it. He wore a medium length heavy overcoat, and wore a derby hat.
I noticed that the man was standing at the corner, it was bright moon light when I came in. I heard Papa speak about the man walking up and down the street. Papa was looking out of the Bay window, and I also looked out saw the man walk up and down the street several times. I saw him set on the steps leading from the street to [Manion’s Walk]. He sat there some time, he then sat on steps leading to yard, he then went up onto stoop steps, he seemed to get onto his knees and took off his hat. He appeared to take something out of his hat, then appeared to be doing something with his hands on the stoop. I was not looking out of the window when the matches were lit, but when Papa opened the door the man

Jumped up from the stoop and ran off towards Wooster St. I do not think the man was over 30 years of age. I did not know the man when he got up and ran away. I think it was around 11 o’clock I guess I was looking at him a little longer than half an hour.
