Giulio Strozzi, (1583 - 1652 ), was a poet Italian , librettist working in Venice in the first half of the seventeenth century. He was related to the Strozzi family of Florence, who like their great rivals the Medici family, began in banking before moving into politics. Until its exile from Florence in 1434, the Strozzi family was by far the richest in the city, and was rivaled only by the Medici family, who ultimately took control of the government and ruined the Strozzi both financially and politically. This political and financial competition was the origin of the Strozzi-Medici rivalry. Later, while the Medici ruled Florence, the Strozzi family ruled Siena, which Florence attacked, causing great animosity between the two families. Soon afterwards, the Strozzi married into the Medici family, essentially giving the Medici superiority.

Luigi Capponi (1582 – 1659) was an Italian Catholic cardinal who became archbishop of Ravenna.
Capponi was born in 1582, the son of Senator Francesco Capponi and Ludovica Macchiavelli. The Capponi family had extensive links to Italian political circles and to senior members of the Catholic Church. He was educated at the Archgymnasium of Rome where he received a doctorate and became a papal prelate and then treasurer of the Apostolic Chamber. He became a close friend of Cardinal Bonifazio Bevilacqua Aldobrandini.
On 24 November 1608 he was elevated to cardinal and was installed as cardinal-deacon of Sant'Agata dei Goti. In 1614, he was appointed legate in Bologna but fell ill and Cardinal Giulio Savelli was appointed in his place. When he recovered he was appointed cardinal-deacon of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria.
