The town of Sherman, Conecticut was formed in 1802 from the northern part of New Fairfield. It is named for New Haven's Founding Father, Roger Sherman. The town on New Fairfield was incorporated in 1740. Its two sections were known as Upper and Lower Seven Miles. The church which became the Sherman Congregational Church was established in 1744 and was known in ecclesiastical records as the New Fairfield North Society. This volume traces the history of the Society from its founding to 1894.
